MLK celebration set for Baton Rouge area


BATON ROUGE – A Martin Luther King Day commemoration program will be held at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Baton Rouge.

The program is set for Jan. 19 at 8 a.m. at the church on 356 East Blvd.

A civil rights march will follow at the Baton Rouge River Center at 275 River Road. The event will honor all of the leaders and activists from Baton Rouge, with special tribute to civil rights icons attorney Johnnie Jones and the Rev. Betty Claiborne.

The Rev. Daniel Well, associate pastor of Mount Pilgrim Baptist Church, will be the keynote speaker.

A stage play, “The Dream Realized,” will be performed, along with “A Civil Rights Documentary” and many other songs.

Free refreshments will be served.
