Seven Ascension Parish School System high school students recently participated in the 43rd annual Louisiana Youth Seminar (LYS) presented by Leadership Seminars of America. The Shell Chemical Geismar Plant provided tuition funding for the students to attend the event on the LSU campus in Baton Rouge.

Open to Louisiana high school juniors and seniors, the program

enhances student development by including hands-on activities that build core leadership skills such as effective communication, problem solving, public speaking, working with others, and developing strong values and character.

Ascension Parish students attending the seminar were: East Ascension High School student Abby Harris; Dutchtown High School student Takiya Bennett; St. Amant High School students Madison Knott, Joshua Owens, and Julia Wright; and Donaldsonville High School students Horace Brewer and Alexis Werner.

Shell supports efforts to help build future community leaders who will solve the complex social, environmental, and economic challenges ahead for future generations.
