Support the Resource Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders, a program offered through Families Helping Families of Greater Baton Rouge, by participating in Get Active for Autism.

The event takes place on April 13, at Independence Boulevard & State Police Training Grounds, from 8 a.m. until 12 noon.

The day will kickoff at 8 a.m. with a 5K run followed by the Walk beginning at 9 a.m. The Active for Autism Fun Fest will immediately follow the walk with free food, free drink and other festivities wrapping up at 12:00 p.m. What better way to show your support than by celebrating a day with thousands of people whose lives have been touched by autism?

In the United States: One in every 88 U.S. children -- and one in 54 boys -- has autism.

Autism costs society approximately $35 billion to care for all individuals diagnosed each year over their lifetimes. It costs approximately $3.2 million to rear a child with autism as compared with $290,000 to rear a child without a diagnosis of autism. Every 20 minutes another child is diagnosed with autism; another family starts its puzzle. The Resource Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders, a program offered through Families Helping Families of Greater Baton Rouge, helps the puzzle become manageable.
