Members of Companion Animal Rescue of Ascension (CARA), a newly formed non-profit organization helping to get stray or abandoned animals adopted, spoke to members of the Gonzales Rotary during its meeting held on Feb. 5. CARA President, Helen Morales, told Rotarians that the number of stray animals has increased during the last few years due to the economic downturn. Many people, she said, are simply unable to afford to care for their animals. CARA takes in strays, has them checked by a veterinarian, and attempts to place animals in new homes.
