Baton Rouge area residents will have a new reason to sing later this month when the LSU Performing Arts Academy launches the new LSU Community Choir. Part performance group, part class, the program is designed to provide adults who enjoy singing with a new creative outlet, while building their knowledge about the voice, singing technique and more.

Melissa Brunkan, the choir's director and Assistant Professor of Music Education at LSU, believes the new choir will have a broad appeal. "I'm excited about starting this group," she says, "because I think it will offer the community a chance to come together with a creative, musical purpose…but in a social, relaxed setting." No previous experience is required to join the group.

The group, which meets on Monday nights from 6-7:30 p.m., begins Feb. 25 with an open house night designed to welcome prospective members and to introduce people to the class. The class will run for 11-weeks and will conclude with a performance in early May.
