Ascension Parish Declares State of Emergency
As a precautionary measure, Ascension Parish President Tommy Martinez has declared a State of Emergency for Ascension Parish beginning Thursday, May 5, because of the possibility of flooding from rising waters along the Mississippi River.
“All parish agencies are being notified,” Martinez said. “And with this declaration, Ascension Parish has the ability to request state and federal resources if needed. We understand the levees are the responsibility of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and the corresponding levee districts but we are prepared to support them operationally and logistically should the need arise.”
Ascension Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness Director Rick Webre said his office has continued to be on standby and coordinating with all appropriate agencies.
“Contingencies are being prepared to protect our citizens and infrastructure,” Webre said.
