Strawberry Idol singing contest planned at Pontchatoula festival

American Legion Post 47 and the Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival are hosting a new event for the 2011 festival on in April.

The “STRAWBERRY IDOL SINGING CONTEST” will have a prize of $500 for first place, 15 minutes on stage during the festival on Friday night April 8, and four hours of studio recording time.

The event is being held by The American Legion Post 47 to raise funds to replace Flags and Flag Poles at the Ponchatoula Cemetery. You can go to the following website to make a donation anytime:  HYPERLINK ""

The event’s advancement rounds were held at Ponchatoula High School Feb. 19 & 20. The semi-finals and finals will be on March 18-19.

Singers will be able to enter twice during the February rounds. All interested aspiring singers can go to    HYPERLINK "" to pay for their entry fee and to the Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival website at:   HYPERLINK "" to download the entry form.
