Master plan meetings continue this week

Staff reports

A series of public meetings that began Monday night regarding the Ascension Parish Comprehensive Plan, which will develop a land use plan that the parish will use as a blueprint for the next 20-30 years, continues through Wednesday.

Tuesday’s meeting is at the Geismar Community Center, 12060 Hwy 73, Geismar, at 6:30 p.m.

The Wednesday meeting is in Donaldsonville  at Lowery Elementary, 2389 B, Hwy. 1 South, also at 6:30 p.m.

To form the future vision of the parish, input on how the parish should grow is being solicited from participants. Attendees are being asked to comment on appropriate locations for new development, appropriated development patterns, as well as “sacred places” that should be conserved over time.

Parish President Tommy Martinez has strongly encouraged parish residents to attend one of the meetings in their area and make their voices heard.

He described the current program to plan Ascension growth as “a once in a lifetime opportunity to shape the future of the our parish for decades to come.”
