62 percent of the class anticipates TOPS 4-year scholarship awards. The breakdown of TOPS Scholarships awarded are $284,800, and $102,750 other scholarships.

High school seniors in Donaldsonville are well on their way to their next step in their academic careers, as the city's two high schools held graduation exercises for their respective classes of 2009.

Donaldsonville High School held its graduation inside of the school due to bad weather and Ascension Catholic High School held its ceremony at Ascension of Our Lord Catholic Church in Donaldsonville.

Ascension Catholic also held its Baccalaureate event last Thursday at 7 p.m., also at the church.

Ascension Catholic Class of 2009 Valedictorian is Allison Katherine Falcon. Falcon is the daughter of Scott and Lauren Falcon on Donaldsonville. She will attend Louisiana State University and plans to major in biological engineering.

Salutatorian is Ashlyn Marie Grisaffe. Ashlyn will attend Southwest Mississippi Community College in the fall and major in secondary education. She is the daughter of Burt and Darla Grisaffe of Donaldsonville. About 62 percent of the class anticipates TOPS 4-year scholarship awards.

Donaldsonville High Class of 2009 valedictorian is Chelsea Davis. Davis plans to attend Xavier University and major in Pre-med.

Salutatorian is Gabrielle Bessix. She finished with a cumulative GPA of 3.95. She is the daughter of Sharon Joseph and Joseph Bessix. She plans to attend Southern University in Baton Rouge and major in Nursing.
