Soggy Spartans continue tradition

East Ascension High seniors Kristy Moran, 18, left, and J.J. Lipoma, 17, rafted to stay dry during the traditional senior class jump in the pond.

They came armed with floaties, inner tubes around their waists,  and even  a raft – East Ascension High seniors with one goal in mind – fullfilling a decades old graduation ritual. Senior after senior dove head first, back flipped, stepped or was thrown into the muddy pond in front of the school, and families and friends cheered them on, during the event that is as much about the start of a life beyond the walls of high school as it is celebrating the end of final exams.

Two East Ascension High seniors dive head first into the pond in front of the school’s campus Wednesday morning.
