‘Art on the Avenue’ Friday in D’ville

Experience the charm and history of Downtown Historic Donaldsonville while enjoying creative expression in a hometown atmosphere during “Art on the Avenue” Friday, March 13 from 6:30-8 p.m. The event will take place on Railroad Avenue.

“Art on the Avenue” will feature works from various area artists, and the public is invited to attend. Complimentary refreshments will be available.

Participating artists will include: Alvin Batiste, nationally recognized primitive artist; Nora’s Bakery & Bistro; Terry Farrell, expressive portrait and figurative imagery; The Art Bank; Cetin Ates, metaphoric sculptured steel; The Art Bank, Dennis Hargroder, Iconic Louisiana imagery; Grapevine Cafe & Gallery; and Steven Schneider, Spiritual icons and  Landshapes, Schneider Gallery.

‘Raising the Roof’ garage sale

The First United Methodist Church at 224 West Constitution Avenue is holding a “Raising the Roof” garage sale Saturday, March 14 in the Celebration Center from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. The sale will continue Sunday, March 15 from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. There will be furniture, household goods, books, and all kinds of miscellaneous items, but no clothing or shoes. Proceeds will be used to help pay for the churchss roof that was damaged in Hurricane Gustav.

Lunch to benefit March of Dimes

GSA, Inc. has announced their commitment to the 2009 March of Dimes Campaign by sponsoring a shrimp stew lunch Friday, March 20 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. The shrimp stew lunch comes with potato salad, bread and dessert for $8.  The lunches can be picked up at the GSA office located at 1022 S. Purpera Ave., Gonzales. Join the Court Appointed Special Advocates staff for their Open House Saturday, April 25, from 9 a.m. - noon at the Gonzales office located at 3026 E. Worthey Rd., Suite C.
