COEA hosts family day, picnic

Community Opportunities of East Ascension held its third annual Family Fun Day Picnic Saturday to promote disability awareness.

March is disability awareness month. The event was held at the Knight of Columbus Hall and grounds.

NFL football player Glenn Dorsey, who plays for the Kansas City Chiefs and formerly played at LSU and East Ascension, signed autographs and took pictures at the event.

The day started with a run, walk and roll. Donnie Brown won the run, while Peggy Pecue placed first in the walk and Casey Sims took the roll.

Glen Gautreau and the Country Boys provided music throughout the day.

The event was sponsored by the Jambalaya Festival Association, AARP, BASF, Healing Place Church, The Gonzales Rotary Club, Fellowship Church and Hambrick Mortuary.
