Members of YOURS Foundation are ramping up for another Music Fest to raise funds to build a skate park in Ascension Parish.

Skateboarding and music will fill the Ascension Civic Center March 7 for Music Fest 2009.

YOURS Foundation (Your Own Unique Riding Style) will present the festival from noon-7 p.m. at the center located on Airline Hwy. in Sorrento, organizer Branden Bennett said. Five bands and two skateboard competitions will be there, and prizes and raffles will be given out. The fundraiser event has a $5 admission cost. Skaters are asked to bring their own boards and helmets to skate all day.

“This is all for a good cause,” Bennett said. “It’s been a long road but in the end the park will get built.Being persistent and having a drive is the main thing behind the park being built. I want a place for everyone to be able to practice what they love. Hopefully we will be able to give it to them.”

Bands scheduled to play include Against the Stream, High Top Kicks, Adam Dale, Backlit Stereo and EZ Company, according to the group’s site at myspace.com/skateparkfundraiser.

Last year the fundraiser earned more than $1,000 toward a skate park for the Gonzales area. The group is hoping to at least double that amount this year. The plan is to build a 35,000 square-foot park.

Music Fest, set for March 7 noon-7 p.m. at the Ascension Civic Center in Sorrento, will feature plenty of bands and skateboarding.
