Art Gumbo Market Saturday

The artists and friends of River Region Art Association hold an Art Gumbo Market Saturday, March 21, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. (weather permitting), in the shaded area at the entrance of Houmas House Plantation. The event is held every third Saturday throughout the year and on the first three Saturdays in December. These artists offer painting, pottery, jewelry, photography and other art mediums.

In addition to the shopping, Kevin Kelly, owner of Houmas House, provides visitors with a sample from the kitchen of Jeremy Langlois, the celebrated chef of Café’ Burnside and Latil’s Landing, both located on the Plantation grounds.

St. Amant FFA Annual Plant Sale

St. Amant FFA will hold its Annual Plant Sale on March 28, from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. at the St. Amant High Greenhouse. They will offer a variety of spring bedding plants, vegetables and herbs. Plants will also remain for sale the week of March 30-April 2, from 8-4 at the greenhouse.

PRE-ORDER Fruit trees are being accepted at this time until March 20. Pre-order fruit trees will be available for pick up on March 28 as well.

American Legion Senior Citizen Easter Bingo

American Lefion Senior Citizen Easter Bingo will be Thursday, March 26 at Gautreau-Williams Post 81, from 1-3 p.m. The public is invited to join in the bingo, along with refreshment and possible winning a door prize.

Second Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church celebrating 100 years

This is a special invitation for the public to attend the Second Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church’s 100th anniversary of the church.

This event will be held on March 22 at 3 p.m. at the church, 8372 Railroad Street, Sorrento.

The guest speaker for this occasion will be the Rev. Dr. Joseph C. Dyson Sr., of the Holy Faith Temple Baptist Church of New Orleans.

Seventh Annual Senior Prom

Ascension Council on Aging will be presenting its Seventh Annual Senior Prom on Sunday, March 22, from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. It will be held at the Gonzales Civic Center and entry fee will be $5 for COA participants and $10 for the general public 60 years and over. Harvest Time Food Bank

Harvest Time Food Bank will distribute food on March 24, between the hours of 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. The location is Harvest Time Worship Center, 4462 Jenkins Rd, Darrow. Proper ID required. Certain guidelines must be met in order to qualify.

Rotary Club of Gonzales 2015 Food Fest

The Rotary Club of Gonzales Food Festival will take place Tuesday, March 24, from 5:30 – 7:30 p.m., at the Gonzales Civic Center.

The popular annual event benefits the St. Theresa Food Pantry and showcases some of this area’s best chefs. Tickets are $25 per person and are available for purchase at Gonzales City Hall, The Ascension Chamber of Commerce or at the door the night of the event. (Tickets are also available through any Rotary Club of Gonzales Member.)

Attendees are encouraged to bring a canned good. For every one canned good donated, Blue Runner will donate two in return.

March for Babies moves location

March for Babies 2015 in Ascension Parish will occur on Saturday, March 28 at the Fire Department located at 724 W. Orice Roth Rd. in Gonzales. Company and Family teams may begin setting up tents at 7 a.m. After a short program, the winner of the T-Shirt contest and the online contest will lead the walk at 8:30 a.m. Festivities will continue after the walk with games and activities for the children. Due to a special election, March for Babies will be moving locations this year. Take note it will now be behind the Fire Department at 724 W. Orice Roth Rd. Parking is available adjacently at the Tee Joe Gonzales Park. There will still be a three-mile walk in a neighborhood setting north of the park.

All other details are the same. Saturday, March 28 at 8:30 am.

‘Celebrate Freedom’ at Jambalaya Park

The annual “Celebrate Freedom” will take place on Saturday, March 28 from 2 - 8 p.m., at the Jambalaya Park, 1015 E. Cornerview St., Gonzales.

There will be food, music, prizes, face painting, bicycle repair, blood pressure check and more. It’s all free!

Dramas will be preformed and testimonies given. The event is hosted by Christ Healing Community and Teen Challenge. For information, call 225-773-4302.

Tuesday and Sunday Bingo

The St. Amant Knights of Columbus holds bingo two nights a week. On Tuesday, the doors open at 6 p.m. and bingo begins at 7:30. On Sunday afternoon the doors open at 4 p.m. and bingo begins at 5 p.m. No one under the age of 18 is allowed.

Everyone is invited to come. On the last Tuesday of each month free jambalaya is served to the players. The St. Amant Knights of Columbus Hall is located at 43472 Black Bayou Road. 

Azalea Estates to host Spring AARP Safe Driving Course

Azalea Estates will host a Spring AARP Safe Driving Course on Tuesday, March 31 at 5:30 p.m. The course fee is $15 for AARP members, $20 for non-members.

Ascension Counseling Center offers ‘Adult Anger Management’ classes

Ascension Counseling Center Adult Anger Management classes are now forming. Each session will cost $10. A certificate of completion will be issued once the program is completed. To Enroll in our Six week Sessions contact Tatiyana Curry at 225-450-1157.

Wednesday Bingo

The American Legion Post 81, 421 E. City, Gonzales, holds bingo every Wednesday night. Everyone is welcome. Children are welcome, but must buy at least a $5 book.

Weekend Bingo

VFW Post 3693, bingo Friday and Saturday nights. Children six years and older are welcome, must buy at least a $5 book. Doors open at 6 p.m., bingo starts at 7:30 p.m., located at 42430 Church Point Rd., Gonzales.

Stop Smoking Classes

All adults are welcome to these FREE “Stop Smoking” classes. Participants will receive cessation education, strategies for quitting, and self-help material from a certified trained clinician.
