Home Vegetable Gardening Symposium coming to Lamar-Dixon Expo Center

The symposium will be held on Thursday, March 5, from 2 – 4:30 p.m., at the Lamar Dixon Expo Center, 9039 St. Landry Road, Gonzales, in the LSU AgCenter Extension Office. Interested homeowners are welcome to attend.

The LSU AgCenter is conducting a Home Vegetable Gardening Symposium for homeowners who would like to learn more about growing vegetables in the home garden. The symposium will be presented by local Extension Agents Mariah Bock from St. James Parish, Stephanie Gravois from Ascension Parish, Craig Roussel from Ascension/St. James Parishes, and Dr. Ed Bush, LSU Horticulture Professor.

Topics covered will include general vegetable production practices, insect identification and control, disease management techniques, and information on raised bed vegetable gardening including research being conducted on growing media for raised beds. At the conclusion of the indoor presentations, we will go outside (weather permitting) to discuss ongoing work in the demonstration gardens at Lamar Dixon for those who are interested.
