CASA training starts Monday

CASA training for Ascension and St. James volunteers will begin at 6:00 pm on Monday January 26, at the Child Advocacy Services office located 1026 E. Worthey Rd. Suite C., Gonzales. Call Krisy McAdams at 225-647-2005 or email to kmcadams@childadv.net to sign up for the training.

No special skills required, but a CASA volunteer must make a sincere commitment because the duties are extremely important. Please consider being there for a child. Free Income Tax Preparation

The AARP Taxaide Program will provide free tax assistance for federal and state income tax filers at American Legion Post 81, 421 East City Park Avenue, Gonzales. The tax counselors will begin assisting filers on Wednesday, February 4, 2015, continuing each Wednesday and Friday between 9 a.m. and 11:30 a.m. through April 10. The site will be closed on Good Friday, April 3.

Filers must bring proof of ID, Social Security cards, last year’s tax return and 2014 tax documents, such as W2 and 1099 forms, other income information, home insurance papers, home mortgage statements and real estate tax information.

This assistance is made possible by AARP, American Legion Post 81, and AARP volunteers.

Known Author/Counselor to Speak

First Baptist Church Gonzales will host Mrs. Martha Peace January 23-24. Peace is a ladies’ Bible teacher and counselor from Sharpsburg, Georgia. She has written six books and conducts conferences throughout the southeast. The theme for the conference is “A Heart of Hope”. Friday 5:30 – 8:30, Saturday 7:45 – 2:00.

The cost is $45, $35 senior adults, $100 for a family which includes 3 meals. The cost at the door is $60. For more information or to register for the conference, contact us at women@fbcg.net.

St. Amant Columbian Squires looking to recruit

The St. Amant Columbian Squires are looking to recruit Catholic boys from the ages of 9 to 18 years old. The Squires offer unity, keadership, and prayer in the community. Also available are some of the State events like bowling, Family Fun Day and many local events.

They also have projects like, Help the Handicap Program, Gumbo to Go fundraiser and help St. Amant KC Council 6389 with their community and church projects.

The members are in the need of new ideals to grown this Squire Group to the next level.

The Louisiana State Columbian Squires have started a Columbian Squire Booster Club, which parents are encouraged to participate.

The meetings are on the second Wednesday of the Month.

Tuesday and Sunday Bingo

The St. Amant Knights of Columbus holds bingo two nights a week. On Tuesday, the doors open at 6 p.m. and bingo begins at 7:30. On Sunday afternoon the doors open at 4 p.m. and bingo begins at 5 p.m. No one under the age of 18 is allowed.

Everyone is invited to come. On the last Tuesday of each month free jambalaya is served to the players. The St. Amant Knights of Columbus Hall is located at 43472 Black Bayou Road. 

TOPS LA 422

Take Off Pounds Sensibly LA 422 Prairieville meets on Thursday evenings. Private TOPS weigh-ins are from 5:30-6 p.m. and meetings are from 6-7 p.m. Visitors are welcome to attend their first TOPS meeting free of charge. To find out more information about TOPS, call 313-3180.

Harvest Time Food Bank

Harvest Time Food Bank will distribute food on January 27, between the hours of 10 am - 12 pm. Location Harvest Time Worship Center, 4462 Jenkins Rd, Darrow. Proper ID required. Certain guidelines must be met in order to qualify.

Addiction Recovery Support Group

An addiction recovery support group meets at 7 p.m. every Friday at Christ Healing Community, 404 West Pine St., Gonzales (behind Dominos on Airline.) Coed Group. Faith based. Child-care provided. For more information, call 810-8695.

Wednesday Bingo

The American Legion Post 81, 421 E. City, Gonzales, holds bingo every Wednesday night. Everyone is welcome. Children are welcome, but must buy at least a $5 book.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and bingo starts at 7:30 p.m.

Weekend Bingo

VFW Post 3693, bingo Friday and Saturday nights. Children six years and older are welcome, must buy at least a $5 book. Doors open at 6 p.m., bingo starts at 7:30 p.m., located at 42430 Church Point Rd., Gonzales.
