Bookworm Bash

Hey, Kids!  Worm, friend of Spider and Fly, cordially invites you to wiggle your way over to my fabulous Bookworm Bash at the Ascension Parish Library in Dutchtown on Saturday, January 10 at 10:00 AM, where you’ll learn how to be a worm like me.  

Participants play games that teach them all about worms and what they do!

Ascension Veterans Association inaugural scholarship

The Ascension Veterans Association (AVA) has extended the deadline for its inaugural scholarship to Feb. 1. If you are the child, grandchild, or spouse of a veteran, active duty member, National Guard, Reserves of any five of the military branches, you are eligible for this scholarship. The AVA will award up to three $1000.00 scholarship for use at the college or vocational school of the recipient’s choice. Teen Book Club

Whether you’re a fan of Lauren Oliver, Scott Westerfeld, Suzanne Collins, James Patterson, or one of the other zillion authors in the world. . . if you like to read, and if you like to talk about the books that you read, then you should check out Ascension Parish Library’s Teen Book Club.  You’re not required to read a specific title; just come and discuss the book that’s sitting on the floor by your bed.  There’s a good chance that someone else in the club has read it and wants to talk about it too.  

The Teen Book Club is held on the third Thursday of every month. The next monthly meeting is on Thursday, January 15 at 5:30 PM in Galvez. This program is open to all teens 6th grade and above. For further information, call Ascension Parish Library in Galvez at 622-3339.

The Rock Church offering four-weeks of FREE Family Bible Study

“The Rock Church located at 42080 Churchpoint Rd in Gonzales cares about the kind of legacy you leave your family,” stated Tony Alise.”

Starting January 16, The Rock Church is offering a four-week FREE family Bible study on Friday nights at 6:30 pm. BUILDING A FAMILY LEGACY by Dr. James Dobson is a family Bible study designed to inspire parents to leave a priceless legacy of personal faith in Jesus Christ to generations that follow.

Pajama Storytime

If you love hearing stories before bedtime, then put on your favorite PJ’s and join in at Ascension Parish Library for a snow themed Pajama Storytime. They will read great stories, sing fun songs, and you’ll get to make your very own snowman craft to take home. Pajama Storytime will be held on Thursday, January 8 in Gonzales and Galvez, and on Tuesday, January 13 in Donaldsonville and Dutchtown. All Pajama Storytimes begin at 6:30 p.m. This program is designed for children ages 7 and younger and their families. Addiction Recovery Support Group

An addiction recovery support group meets at 7 p.m. every Friday at Christ Healing Community, 404 West Pine St., Gonzales (behind Dominos on Airline.) Coed Group. Faith based. Child-care provided. For more information, call 810-8695.

Tuesday and Sunday Bingo

The St. Amant Knights of Columbus holds bingo two nights a week. On Tuesday, the doors open at 6 p.m. and bingo begins at 7:30. On Sunday afternoon the doors open at 4 p.m. and bingo begins at 5 p.m. No one under the age of 18 is allowed.

Everyone is invited to come. On the last Tuesday of each month free jambalaya is served to the players. The St. Amant Knights of Columbus Hall is located at 43472 Black Bayou Road. 

Sharpie Tie-Dye

Hey tweens, create some groovy Sharpie Tie-Dye items at Ascension Parish Library in Gonzales. Bring your own white or light colored cotton t-shirt, pillowcase, or socks to the library on Saturday, January 10 at 11:00 AM. All other materials will be provided. This program is for tweens in grades 4th-8th. Call Gonzales at 225-647-3955 for more information.

Weekend Bingo

VFW Post 3693, bingo Friday and Saturday nights. Children six years and older are welcome, must buy at least a $5 book. Doors open at 6 p.m., bingo starts at 7:30 p.m., located at 42430 Church Point Rd., Gonzales.

StashBuilder’s Quilt Guild meets

StashBuilder’s Quilt Guild meets at 7 p.m. on the fourth Monday of the month at St. James Lutheran Church, 1415 E Hwy. 30, in Gonzales. Both new and experienced quilters are invited to attend. Call 225-936-2238 for more information.

Lego Club Meets

Whether you are a first time builder or a master at Lego construction, you are sure to have a fun time putting the pieces together at Ascension Parish Library’s Lego Club.  Try to construct the Lego Challenge or simply build whatever you like on January 15 at 6:00 PM in Gonzales.  The library will provide the Legos, but materials and creations must stay at the library, so you might want to bring a camera to capture the moment!

Lego Club is open to children of all ages.  Duplo Blocks and Mega Bloks will be available for younger children.  Please remember to leave your own Legos at home. TOPS LA 422

Take Off Pounds Sensibly LA 422 Prairieville meets on Thursday evenings. Private TOPS weigh-ins are from 5:30-6 p.m. and meetings are from 6-7 p.m. Visitors are welcome to attend their first TOPS meeting free of charge. To find out more information about TOPS, call 313-3180.
