The City of Gonzales seems to be doing its best to lure Santa Claus to town this Christmas. Last week the City hosted the 30th annual Senior Citizens Christmas Party with help from the local Rotary Clubs, and on Friday night Volunteer Ascension invited families out for a movie in Jambalaya Park.

The Christmas party for the seniors was held at the Gonzales Civic Center where the seniors was served by state leaders like Rep. Johnny Berthelot and Rep. Ed. Price, Parish leaders like President Tommy Martinez and city leaders like Fire Chief Tracy Normand, Police Chief Sherman Jackson, and of course Mayor Barney Arceneaux.

On Friday, Volunteer Ascension hosted its second annual outdoor Christmas Movie Night with a double feature including the original “How the Grinch Stole Christmas” followed by “It’s a Wonderful Life.”

For a brief intermission between the two movie features, Center Stage Performing Arts Academy performed for the crowd.
