Freeport-McMoran Retiree Club’s Annual Christmas Social

The Freeport-McMoran Retiree Club will be celebrating their annual Christmas Social at the Mosaic Recreation Building (Old Freeport Peppermint Lounge) on Saturday, December 13, 2014, from 10:00 A.M. till. 25th Festival of the Bonfires

The 25th Festival of the Bonfires is set for December 12, 13, 14, located at La Hwy. 3193 (Lutcher Avenue) Lutcher. Festival opens Friday @ 2pm-midnight, Saturday 9am-midnight and Sunday 10am-6pm. Some of the bands featured are Bag of Donuts, Karma, Mike Broussard & Friends with special appearance by Van Broussard. Bonfire lighting on the levee will take place Friday and Saturday @ 7pm. Lots of food, entertainment, vendors, contest, car show, amusement rides and more for the entire family. Free Shuttles to the levee are available 30 minutes prior to bonfire lighting. Art Gumbo Market Saturday

The artists and friends of River Region Art Association hold an Art Gumbo Market in the shaded area at the entrance of Houmas House Plantation. The event is held from 10 am till 2 pm (weather permitting) every third Saturday throughout the year and on the first three Saturdays in December. These artists offer painting, pottery, jewelry, photography and other art mediums. In addition to the shopping, Kevin Kelly, owner of Houmas House, provides visitors with a sample from the kitchen of Jeremy Langlois, the celebrated chef of Café’ Burnside and Latil’s Landing, both located on the Plantation grounds.

VFW/Auxiliary 3693 Christmas Party

The VFW/Auxiliary 3693 will host their annual Christmas party. Sunday, Dec. 6 at 6 p.m. If attending, one is asked to bring a dessert. The party is for members and guests. The party will also feature a raffle and auction.

Special Tuesday Christmas Party

The “Special Tuesday Christmas Party” will take place Tuesday, Dec. 16, from 4-8 p.m. at the Gonzales Civic Center, 219 S. Irma Blvd., Gonzales.

Senior Citizen Christmas Party

The American Legion Unit 81 Auxiliary ladies will host a Senior Citizen Christmas Party for all seniors on Tuesday, Dec. 9, from 1-3 p.m. There will be bingo, prizes and refreshments. The event will take place at the American Legion Hall.

Prison Hosts Christmas Parade and Craft Fair 

The staff of Elayn Hunt Correctional Center (EHCC) will host their annual Christmas Parade on Sunday, Dec. 7. The parade will begin at 1 p.m. at the front gate of the facility and will travel a one and one-quarter mile route, looping through Legion Drive and the St. Gabriel Heights Subdivision and returning to the facility grounds. All are invited to join the festivities by watching the parade along the parade route. Crafts made by offenders of EHCC and the Louisiana Correctional Institute for Women (LCIW) will be available for sale at the front of the prison from 12 noon until 3:30 p.m. For more information, contact Markisha L. Recovery Support Group

An addiction recovery support group meets at 7 p.m. every Friday at Christ Healing Community, 404 West Pine St., Gonzales (behind Dominos on Airline.) Coed Group. Faith based. Child-care provided. For more information, call 810-8695.

Tuesday and Sunday Bingo

The St. Amant Knights of Columbus holds bingo two nights a week. On Tuesday, the doors open at 6 p.m. and bingo begins at 7:30. On Sunday afternoon the doors open at 4 p.m. and bingo begins at 5 p.m. No one under the age of 18 is allowed.

Everyone is invited to come. On the last Tuesday of each month free jambalaya is served to the players. The St. Amant Knights of Columbus Hall is located at 43472 Black Bayou Road. 

Wednesday Bingo

The American Legion Post 81, 421 E. City, Gonzales, holds bingo every Wednesday night. Everyone is welcome. Children are welcome, but must buy at least a $5 book.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and bingo starts at 7:30 p.m.

Weekend Bingo

VFW Post 3693, bingo Friday and Saturday nights. Children six years and older are welcome, must buy at least a $5 book. Doors open at 6 p.m., bingo starts at 7:30 p.m., located at 42430 Church Point Rd., Gonzales.

StashBuilder’s Quilt Guild meets

StashBuilder’s Quilt Guild meets at 7 p.m. on the fourth Monday of the month at St. James Lutheran Church, 1415 E Hwy. 30, in Gonzales. Both new and experienced quilters are invited to attend. Call 225-936-2238 for more information.
