KC Council 8342 Jambalaya/Blood Drive Fundraiser
The St. John the Evangelist Knights of Columbus Council 8342 will host a Jambalaya/Blood Drive Fundraiser on Sunday, Oct. 5. The jambalaya will be cooked Jambalaya Champion Bryon Gautreau. Also, the St. John’s Ladies Auxiliary will have a “Sweet Sale.” All proceeds to benefit the seminaries.

Baptist church to host Men’s Day
Second Mount Carmel Missionary Baptist Church, 8372 Railroad Street in Sorrento, is hosting a Men’s Day program entitled, “Men Becoming Soldiers for Christ” on Sept. 28
This event will take place on Sunday, September 28, 2014 at 3 p.m. The guest speaker will be none other than the Pastor Devin K. Mason Sr. Pastor Mason is the proud pastor of the Rescue Mission Baptist Church, Reserve and the Philippians Baptist Church, Convent. He is also the president of the 2nd District Baptist Association.
All men, young and old as well as women are invited to attend this event.

Boo at the Barn
St. Amant FFA's Boo at the Barn will be held on Saturday, October 25, from 3-6 p.m. at the St. Amant High School Ag Field. It costs $1 or 1 canned good to enter.

The Libertarian Party Ascension Parish Executive Committee Regular monthly meeting is set for Thursday, Oct. 2, at 7 p.m. at Frank's Smokehouse in Prairieville.
Jambalaya Fundraiser
A “Jambalaya Fundraiser” will be held Saturday, Oct. 4, from 11 a.m.-3 p.m., at 39512 Germany Road, Prairieville. Plates will include jambalaya, white beans, green salad and bread for $7.50 each. Sweets will also be sold. The benefit is being held to help defray LaToya Variganji’s medical expensive.
Boy Scout Troup 769 to host Fundraiser
On October 11 and 12, the River Region Art Association will open the gates to their yearly Awesome Art Festival, located along the Francois Bayou adjacent to the Jambalaya Park in Gonzales. The Art Association has offered non-profit groups free places in this years event so that they can raise funds for their organizations.
“Enjoy!” the Boy Scout’s Sausage Po-boys and Chips while they meander around through the other booths, listen to provided entertainment, and seeing the sights.
Hog Crackling Cook Off
Who: Poche Plantation 1st Annual Arts & Craft Show
What: Featuring a Hog Crackling Cook Off
When: Saturday morning, October 25th
Where: Poche Plantation in Convent
How: Cooks are required to cook at least 50 pounds of fat. The finished product can contain meat or can be meatless. This is a choice made by the cook. Additionally, cooks may choose salt only or may choose seasonings of their choice. Contestants are required to furnish their own cooking equipment and accessories.
Why: There is a $20 entrance and all money raised will go into a charity fund established by the Arts & Craft Show Planning Committee.

St. Vincent de Paul thrift store is at 1402 North Burnside Street, Unit 7, in Gonzales. In back of Auto Zone.
Individuals interested in making donations of clothing, furniture, and household items are encouraged to do so by dropping them off at the 1402 N. Burnside location. Individuals are encouraged to volunteer their time in helping the society to be successful in their charitable mission. Mini Pot Jambalaya Cook-off
Who: Poche Plantation 1st Annual Arts & Craft Show
What: featuring a mini pot jambalaya cook-off
When: Sunday morning, October 26th

How: Cooks are required to cook their jambalaya on a wood fire. The wood, fuel, seasonings and ingredients will be supplied by the cook off committee. Contestants are required to furnish their own mini pot and equipment necessary to produce (no more than) 1 quart of jambalaya.

Fellowship Center needs donations
The Fellowship Center, located at 813 S. Bumside-next to EATEL, is in need of all donations (especially men's clothing). The store is manned by volunteers from local churches and civic organizations, as well as a few paid employees. It is a retail store selling a large assortment of household items and clothing. All of the money, made in the store, is used to help those in need here in the Gonzales area. Participants are asked to donate any used and/or new items. Also participants can shop the Center. Hours of operation are Monday-Saturday, from 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.
Donations accepted: Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. - 3 p.m. and Saturday, from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. (There is a large window in the back of the building where donations are accepted.)
Tuesday and Sunday Bingo
The St. Amant Knights of Columbus holds bingo two nights a week. On Tuesday, the doors open at 6 p.m. and bingo begins at 7:30. On Sunday afternoon the doors open at 4 p.m. and bingo begins at 5 p.m. No one under the age of 18 is allowed.
Everyone is invited to come. On the last Tuesday of each month free jambalaya is served to the players. The St. Amant Knights of Columbus Hall is located at 43472 Black Bayou Road.
Wednesday Bingo
The American Legion Post 81, 421 E. City, Gonzales, holds bingo every Wednesday night. Everyone is welcome. Children are welcome, but must buy at least a $5 book.
Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and bingo starts at 7:30 p.m.
Weekend Bingo
VFW Post 3693, bingo Friday and Saturday nights. Children six years and older are welcome, must buy at least a $5 book. Doors open at 6 p.m., bingo starts at 7:30 p.m., located at 42430 Church Point Rd., Gonzales.
