Nan Riffe visits Ascension Parish Library

ANITA YOUNG Ascension Parish Library

This week the Ascension Parish Library hosts a hands on workshop with Nan Riffe. At Bookmarks with Nan Riffe, you will have fun learning how to make decorative bookmarks that are great for marking your place in your favorite books, or for giving as gifts to your family and friends. Bookmarks with Nan Riffe will take place on June 24th at 10:30 a.m. in Dutchtown and at 2:00 p.m. in Galvez. This program is open to children in 2nd-5th grade. Space is limited and registration is required.

Explore the world around you with fun and exciting programs. At our Bubble Bonanza, bubbles are everywhere!! Children of all ages play outside in a bubble fantasy land and craft fun new bubble toys on Tuesday, June 24th at 10:30 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. in Gonzales and on Friday, June 27th at 10:30 a.m. in Dutchtown. The fun continues with a program designed specifically for tweens, entering grades 4th – 8th. Join us on Tuesday, June 24th at 2:00 p.m. in Donaldsonville, on Thursday, June 26th in Gonzales, or on Friday, June 27th in Galvez to create your very own Junk Robot out of recycled materials. The sky is the limit when you use your imagination and a few spare parts that we have lying around!

Sign up for the Fizz, Boom, Read summer reading program when you stop in to participate in any of these events. Children from birth through eighth grade are eligible to join our reading program. Studies show that children who read at least ten minutes per day during the summer are more likely to retain and improve the reading skills learned during the recent school year. Parish children who join the reading program can track their reading by minutes read to earn prizes. Any child who is registered for the reading program can complete it by reading 100 minutes during the months of June and July. All children who complete the reading program will receive a blue 2014 Fizz, Boom, Read book bag and a free bowling pass, courtesy of Premier Lanes.
