Konchetta Bringier is not a resident of Gonzales or Ascension Parish, but as a member of The Philippians Church in Gonzales she is part of the community.

After 40-year-old Dewona Green and her 12-year-old son Ronald Green, Jr. were found shot to death in their home on April 17, Bringier said she wanted to do something to help their family in its time of bereavement. Bringier had never met the Greens before, but through her pastor learned a little about the family. After investigation by the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, the Green’s had been murdered by Ronald Green, Sr., Dewona’s estranged husband.

On Saturday, May 31 Bringier and others will host a Zumbathon fundraiser, under the theme of “Dance 2 Defeat Domestic Violence,” based on the scripture Proverbs 31: 8 and 9. It will be hosted at Bringier’s church, The Philippians Church located at 13353 Highway 44 in Gonzales beginning at 1 p.m.

“This is for the family,” Bringier said. “I just wanted to see what we could do to help as well. I realized how other kids were affected by this young man being killed by his father.”

Bringier said hearing about the Green’s death hit home for her because she has a nephew that the son “reminds me of and you never know what the kids are going through.”

“I kept seeing they were talking about the family trying to raise money,” Bringier said. “

Bringier added, “My pastor inspired me when he told us the children who went to the same school [as Green, Jr.] were affected by it, and his daughter knew the son very well.”
