Holy Week Celebration

The Buena Vista Baptist Church, located at 10633 Highway 18, St. James and pastored by Rev. Dr. Joseph Coleman Sr., is hosting a Holy Week Celebration starting Monday, April 14 at 7 p.m. On April 14, Pastor Melvin Williams of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Abend and First Baptist Church of Smokebend will speak. On April 15 at 7 p.m., Pastor Lauthaught Delaney, Jr. of St. Paul B.C. will speak. On April 16 at 7 p.m., Pastor Charles Geason of Mt. Bethel B.C. will speak. On April 17 at 7 p.m. for Trial Service, Pastor Andrew Richardson of New Resurrection B.C. and Asbury Independent Methodist Church will speak. On April 18 at 9 a.m. Seven Sayings by Seven Local Ministers will speak. On Sunday, April 20 at 9 a.m. will be Easter Service preached by Pastor Joseph Coleman, Sr.

Jambalaya Festival Pageant

The Jambalaya Festival Pageant will be held on the first weekend in May. The children's divisions will be held on Sunday, May 4 beginning at 2 p.m. at the Gonzales Civic Center. Ascension Parish boys ages 0-4 are invited to compete for King titles and girls ages 0-13 are invited to compete for Queen titles. The Teen and Miss Pageant will be held on Saturday May 3. Arts/Crafts Fun Day

The American Legion Auxiliary of Howard-Johnson Unit 557 will be hosting an Arts and Crafts Fun Day and Easter Egg Hunt. The event will take place from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, April 19 on Tobey Street in Gonzales. All children and families in the community are invited to attend. Annual brisket fundraiser

The Gonzales Firefighters Association’s 5th annual “Best Butts on Da Bayou” fundraiser will take place June 27. Pre-sales ($30 donation) will run until June 1. Pickup at fire station with first pickup, from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. and second pickup, 2-4 p.m. To place your order, call (225) 644-5307.

Annual Prayer and Senior Citizen Breakfast

The Community Sisterhood Annual Prayer and Senior Citizen Breakfast will take place Saturday, April 12, at 8 a.m. at the Geismar Community Center, 12060 Highway 73, Geismar.

Senior Citizen Easter Party

The American Legion Auxiliary will host an Easter Party April 15, from 1-3 p.m. for all seniors. Refreshments, bingo and prizes included. To take place a the American Legion Hall.

Sister to Sister Closet Rescue’ event

The Outreach Ministry of St. Paul Baptist Church is opening its clothes closets to community sisters, ages birth to eighty (80) years old. The doors will be opened to attending sisters to make their personal choices from the collection of gently worn apparel, suitable for various occasions. There will be no charge for the array of garments on hand. However, there will be a limit to the number of items a person can choose. Nothing on hand will be held back.

This event will be held on Saturday, April 12, from 10 a.m. to 6: p.m., at St. Paul Baptist Church, 10438 Boudreaux Road, Gonzales. The church pastor is Rev. Lauthaught Delaney, Jr.

CAS to host fourth annual Blue Run

The Child Advocacy Services is hosting its 4th Annual Blue Run on Saturday, April 12 is. The run will feature a 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk and 5k Race. Activities are to start 7 a.m. at City Hall in Gonzales. Child Advocacy Services is proud to name St. Elizabeth Hospital as the Front Runner Sponsor!

Blue Run is the kick off event for Child Abuse Prevention Month and an opportunity to educate the community about Child Abuse and Neglect. Child Advocacy Services is excited to present the Blue Run as a fun family event with a focus on prevention education, outreach, and CASA program advocacy to our community.

COA’s ‘Spring Fling’

The Ascension Council on Aging will host its annual “Spring Fling” Easter Party on Thursday, April 17, at the Gonzales Senior center on Irma Boulevard. Festivities will begin at 9:30 a.m.

Contests will be held for the prettiest and most creative hats in the Easter Parade. Prizes will be given to the winners. Also included is the COA’s Annual Easter Egg Hunt event!

The ever popular Clif Nickens will provide live entertainment Lunch will be served at noon. Parish seniors 60 and above are encouraged to come out and join the fun!

Ascension Parish Relay for Life

Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society’s signature fund-raising event, bringing communities together in hope, celebration and memory. It is a unique event that offers everyone in the community an opportunity to participate in the fight against cancer. The overnight event remembers those who have lost the fight against cancer and honors those who have survived.

Ascension Parish Crawfish Boiling Contest is coming to Galvez Hardware & Outdoor Cooking, Hwy. 42, Saturday, April 26. Sign up now, space is limited! Fellowship Center needs donations

The Fellowship Center, located at 813 S. Bumside-next to EATEL, is in need of all donations (especially men's clothing). The store is manned by volunteers from local churches and civic organizations, as well as a few paid employees. It is a retail store selling a large assortment of household items and clothing. All of the money, made in the store, is used to help those in need here in the Gonzales area. Participants are asked to donate any used and/or new items. Also participants can shop the Center. Hours of operation are Monday-Saturday, from 9 a.m. – 2:30 p.m.

Donations accepted: Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. - 3 p.m. and Saturday, from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. (There is a large window in the back of the building where donations are accepted.)

VFW Post 3693/ Ladies Auxiliary

Beauty Pageant

The VFW Post 3693 and the Ladies Auxiliary will be hosting a Beauty Pageant on Sunday, April 27, at 2 p.m. at the Post Home on Church Point Road.

The ages are from 5 to 20 years old and there is no entry fee to participate.

Contestants will be judged on Poise, Personality and Beauty. Trophies will be presented to the queens, first runner up, and the second and third place in each of the five categories.

Tuesday and Sunday Bingo

The St. Amant Knights of Columbus holds bingo two nights a week. On Tuesday, the doors open at 6 p.m. and bingo begins at 7:30. On Sunday afternoon the doors open at 4 p.m. and bingo begins at 5 p.m. No one under the age of 18 is allowed.

Everyone is invited to come. On the last Tuesday of each month free jambalaya is served to the players. The St. Amant Knights of Columbus Hall is located at 43472 Black Bayou Road. 

Wednesday Bingo

The American Legion Post 81, 421 E. City, Gonzales, holds bingo every Wednesday night. Everyone is welcome. Children are welcome, but must buy at least a $5 book.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and bingo starts at 7:30 p.m.

Weekend Bingo
