The second annual GAMA / CAER Mutual Aid Day is in full swing and set for this Friday November 15, 2013 at the Lamar Dixon Trademart Building. There will be exhibit booths, emergency response equipment from all local Industrial Facilities on display inside and outside the building, stated Event Chairman James E. LeBlanc. Registration for the event will start at 08:30 am and is open to the public at no charge.

The purpose of the Industrial Event is to display and share Chemical Plant Resources across Ascension, Iberville and St. James Parishes, stated LeBlanc.

GAMA, which stands for “Geismar Area Mutual Aid”, is a voluntary organization of area industry.

GAMA Member Companies may elect to volunteer assistance to another member facility during emergencies, without jeopardizing emergency response at their own facility.

CAER, which stands for “Community Awareness Emergency Response,” is another voluntary organization with member companies offering to provide and receive emergency mutual aid assistance.

The Louisiana State Police will also perform a training session at the event to instruct local Chemical Facilities on the proper procedures on notifying the community when an event occurs at a local facility.

Dan Borne, President of the Louisiana Chemical Association (LCA) and the Louisiana Industry Alliance (LCIA) will be the lunch guest speaker of the event. LCA represents the interest of 66 chemical manufacturing companies that operate at over 90 locations in Louisiana. The LCIA is a partnership of more than 600 members of Louisiana’s chemical plants, their suppliers, contractors and vendors, stated LeBlanc.

The event will showcase industrial and parish emergency response teams together as a group. It also allows all emergency response agencies to see firsthand, what equipment is out there, who has it if it is needed, and make the proper contacts to call for it if it is needed at a local facility, stated LeBlanc. Creative Cajun Cooking will be on hand to provide the lunch for the event.
