BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo Salutes Veterans

In recognition of local veterans, BREC’s Baton Rouge Zoo is hosting Veteran Appreciation Day at the Zoo on Saturday, Nov. 2. The day’s festivities will include free admission for veterans, special guests and keeper chats at our bald eagle exhibit throughout the day.

Special guests include: the Louisiana Department of Veteran Affairs; Baton Rouge Recruiting Battalion; the American Ex-Presenters Board, Red Stick Chapter; Women Veterans of Louisiana; Advocates for Women Warriors; Blue Star Mothers, Chapter 7; the American Ex-Prisoners of War, Red Stick Chapter; Military Order of the Purple Heart, Chapter 177; Wounded Warrior Program, AW2, Advocate New Orleans-Southeastern Region Army.

“Louisiana has such a rich tradition of military service,” said Phil Frost, Zoo Director. “As a Zoo, we’re proud to recognize and honor our veterans while inviting them in for a free day at the Zoo with their families.”

Other activities include keeper chats at our bald eagle exhibit throughout the day; special North-American themed shows at the Safari Amphitheatre at 11:30 a.m., 1:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m.; and the opportunity to see on-site military vehicles.

Complimentary admission will be offered for military veterans, active military and reserve military, plus family members who accompany them (up to five admissions) who present valid active/reserve military, retired or VA medical ID card, or official Louisiana driver’s license with Veteran listing. Valid on Nov. 2, 2013 only. Not valid in combination with any other offer.
