October Cancer Fundraiser

River Parishes Community College's (RPCC) Gamma Beta Phi Chapter is hosting a Cancer Fundraiser on Saturday, Oct. 26, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at RPCC's Main Campus located at 7384 John LeBlanc Blvd., in Sorrento. This fundraiser is for the local Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Screening Center. There will be a Walk-A-Thon, music, activities for children and food, with all proceeds from this event going directly to Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center. A representative from the Mary Bird Perkins Screening Center will be present to pass out information regarding early detection of cancer and other items. If you would like to participate, donate, or volunteer please contact RPCC's Gamma Beta Phi Chapter at gpb@rpcc.edu.

Harvest Time Food Bank

Harvest Time Food Bank located at 4462 Jenkins Road, Darrow, will be distributing food on Tuesday, Oct. 22 between 10 a.m. and noon. Applicants must meet certain guidelines and proper ID is required. For more info call (225) 717-3760 or (225) 257-4152.

The Sunshine Festival is coming

The annual Sunshine Festival will take place at the fairgrounds in Donaldsonville.

The Sunshine Festival brings crowds of people every year and this year will be no exception. Bring the entire family for good times.

St. Amant Middle's Fall Festival

Calling all vendors, performers, businesses . . . St. Amant Middle School will host its 3rd Annual Fall Festival on Saturday, Nov. 2, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at St. Amant Middle School, 44317 Highway 429, St. Amant. The festival will be open to the public.

The Rock Church Making Room

Beginning on Sunday, November 3, 2013 The Rock Church located at 42080 Churchpoint Rd. in Gonzales will begin having two Sunday morning services. The service times are 8:15 am and 10:30 am. Nursery and Children's Church will be available for both services. We invite you and your family to join us as we worship God together. NAACP Meeting

The Ascension Parish Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) has scheduled its' monthly meeting for Monday, Oct. 14, at 6:00 p.m. at St. Paul Baptist Church located at 10438 Boudreaux Road, Gonzales. Halloween Contest/Trunk A Treat

St. Amant Knights of Columbus Holy Rosary Catholic Daughters are hosting a Halloween Contest/Trunk A Treat Thursday, Oct. 24. The Trunk A Treat starts at 6:30 p.m., followed by the contest a 7 p.m. Contest ages are infants to 12-years-old. The event will take place at the KC hall at 43472 Black Bayou Road, St. Amant.

SJH class reunion meeting

St. James High School class of 1999 will host a class reunion meeting on Oct. 20 at Lutcher Library at 3 p.m.. This meeting will be for everyone wishing to participate in the reunion. At the meeting ballots will be available so the class can vote on a location, date, and caterer for the reunion. Information will be presented to help the voting process. Also a $20 deposit per classmate will be collected to have an accurate headcount. If you are certain that you will participate, please pay $20 on that day but you will have until Dec. 1 to pay the deposit. Cancer Awareness Day

The Community Sisterhood, through a partnership with the Mary Bird Cancer Center and Woman's Hospital, will host their annual Cancer Awareness Day. This year's program will be held on Oct. 19 with cancer screenings conducted from 9 to 11 and 12 to 2. They will provide free mammogram, Prostate, and colon screenings to the uninsured of the community. This event is FREE and open to the public!

They will have a short program honoring survivors and those lost to cancer at 2:30.

StashBuilder's Quilt Guild meets

StashBuilder's Quilt Guild meets at 7 p.m. on the fourth Monday of the month at St. James Lutheran Church, 1415 E Hwy. 30, in Gonzales. Both new and experienced quilters are invited to attend. Call 225-936-2238 for more information.

Tuesday and Sunday Bingo

The St. Amant Knights of Columbus holds bingo two nights a week. On Tuesday, the doors open at 6 p.m. and bingo begins at 7:30. On Sunday afternoon the doors open at 4 p.m. and bingo begins at 5 p.m. No one under the age of 18 is allowed.
