DECA is a global high school chapter that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs for careers in marketing, finance, hospitality and management. DECA’s charity is MDA, Muscular Dystrophy Association. MDA proceeds go toward research for treatments and cures. Proceeds also go toward sending children with Muscular Dystrophy to an annual summer camp. This summer camp allows children of all ages to have fun, create long-lasting friendships and an experience that they’ll never forget.

DECA members will be hosting a MDA 5K Walk to raise money for the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The MDA 5K walk will be held at Duplessis Park on Saturday, Oct. 19 from 10 a.m. until noon. Activities and registration will start at 9 a.m. Dress in your best Halloween costume. The top three racers and best costume will win a prize.

Students in Rae Broussard’s GCE and Entrepreneurship class are members of the St. Amant High DECA Chapter and are diligently working to host a successful 5K. “We are very excited to host this 5K walk. Not only because MDA is near and dear to us because of Jody Lejenue, a past STA graduate who passed away from MDA but because MDA is DECA’s Charity and we have met many great children and their families who have suffered from this disease. We are learning the business side of creating a 5K run/walk as well. DECA members had the responsibility of naming the walk, marketing, retrieving sponsors, making forms/fliers/waivers, deciding costs and so much more. We can’t wait to see the success of our hard work, add it to our resume and send a large check to MDA to help those wonderful families.” – Sierra Villar
