Library closings

The Ascension Parish Library will be closed Friday, Aug. 23, from 8:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. for a parish wide staff meeting. All locations re-open at 1:30 p.m. Regular evening hours apply.

Labor Day closing

The Ascension Pairsh Library will be closed Monday, Sept. 2 for Labor Day.

Harvest Time Food Bank

Smoked bar-b-que chicken dinners

Smoked bar-b-que chicken dinners, sponsored by American Legion Auxiliary Unit 258 of Springfield, will be sold Sept. 6, from 11 a.m. til 2 p.m. at Hwy. 43 at Arpadhon Cultural Bldg. (North on Hwy 43 from 1-12 or South of Albany on Hwy 43). Dinners are $7 and include 1/2 chicken, cole slaw, baked beans, roll, and dessert. You may dine on site (in a/c), pick up, or have delivery of five or more dinners in the Albany, Springfield, Holden, or Hammond areas. 2013 Ascension Chamber Business Expo

The 2013 Ascension Chamber Business Expo will showcase businesses throughout the Ascension Community. This event will take place on Thursday, Sept. 5, from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m., at the Lamar Dixon Trademart. It’s to offer face-to-face contact with customers, including fellow vendors and generate immediate sales and leads. All vendors are encouraged to distribute products, samples or promotional items to increase market presence.

This event is open to the public. Cost is $5.

‘Glee for Grown-up Gals’

In conjunction with Women’s Week, The Baton Rouge Chorus of Sweet Adelines International will be hosting “Glee for Grown-up Gals,” Tuesday, Oct. 1, from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 10925 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge.   Ladies are invited to experience the joy of singing a cappella four part harmony, barbershop style!

Awana clubs offered

Give a Pint – Get a Pint

EAHS class of 1988 25th Class Reunion

East Ascension High School Class of 1988 will host its 25th Class Reunion Saturday, Sept. 28, 2013, from 7 p.m. until midnight at The Venue on Hwy. 431. Social from 7 until 8:30. DJ starts playing at 8:30. If the LSU/Georgia game is a night game it be on a big screen TV for your convenience. The cost is $50 per person ($100 per couple) if payment is received prior to Aug. 28. After Aug. 28 the cost is $55 per person or ($110 per couple). Food, soft drinks, beer and wine is included in this price. “Please get your payment sent in early so we can have a good head count for the caterer,” stated classmate Bret Hughes. EAHS class of 1983 30th Year Reunion

The reunion committee is inviting all graduates of the East Ascension High class of 1983 to join in celebrating the 30th reunion. It is scheduled to be held on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 7 a.m.-11 p.m. at the Grande Pavilion on Airline Highway in Gonzales. The cost to attend is $40 per person. This includes a dinner buffet, soft drinks, wine, beer, coffee, dessert and a DJ. A cash bar will also be available. Wednesday Bingo

The American Legion Post 81, 421 E. City, Gonzales, holds bingo every Wednesday night. Everyone is welcome. Children are welcome, but must buy at least a $5 book.
