‘Glee for Grown-up Gals’

In conjunction with Women’s Week, The Baton Rouge Chorus of Sweet Adelines International will be hosting “Glee for Grown-up Gals,” Tuesday, Oct. 1, from 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 10925 Florida Blvd, Baton Rouge.   Ladies are invited to experience the joy of singing a cappella four part harmony, barbershop style!

St. Elizabeth Physicians Kidsfest

St. Elizabeth Physicians and its Diabetes Education Program will host a Kidsfest: A Day of Health & Wellness Just for Kids, Saturday, Aug. 17, from 9 a.m. -1 p.m., in the Lamar-Dixon Gym Building. Families and children of all ages are welcomed to attend, and the event is free to the public.

In addition to a 1k Fun Run for families, there will also be over 25 interactive exhibits showcasing organizations and services throughout the parish, free children’s health screenings, a marketplace area featuring specialty children’s items, live demonstrations and presentations, a “get moving” activity area and plenty of food and fun.

Flyers and complimentary tickets are available at all St. Elizabeth Physicians Clinics, St. Elizabeth Hospital, Ascension Parish Primary and Middle Schools and area businesses.

2013 Ascension Chamber Business Expo

The 2013 Ascension Chamber Business Expo will showcase businesses throughout the Ascension Community. This event will take place on Thursday, Sept. 5, from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m., at the Lamar Dixon Trademart. It’s to offer face-to-face contact with customers, including fellow vendors and generate immediate sales and leads. All vendors are encouraged to distribute products, samples or promotional items to increase market presence.

This event is open to the public. Cost is $5.

Free seminar aids in starting your own business

Ascension Parish Library invites all interested persons to attend a free small business seminar, Starting and Financing a Small Business. It is designed for individuals who want to learn what it takes to start and run a successful small business. The program will focus on helping participants learn how to determine the feasibility of their idea, as well as how to obtain a small business loan. The speaker is Leighton Bryant, Business Development Consultant at the Louisiana Small Business Development Center at Southern University and A&M College - Baton Rouge. 7th Annual Steak Dinner

St. Amant Wildcats youth football organization is selling tickets for the 7th annual steak dinner. The event is being held on Aug. 24 at Lamar Dixon Gym from 5-10 p.m. with each ticket get steak dinner, music, live and silent auctions. Tickets are $25 and participants must be 21 to attend. All proceeds will go to Wildcats organization to buy equipment for 2013 season.

Parent and Youth Summit

The East Ascension Ministers’ Alliance presents its 2nd Annual “Parent and Youth Summit.” Parents and youths are asked to a part of this event. The public is invited to hear from parents and youths of Ascension Parish, along with officials and local government communications of our Ascension Parish youths and parents on today’s issues.
