St. Elizabeth Physicians Kidsfest

St. Elizabeth Physicians and its Diabetes Education Program will host a Kidsfest: A Day of Health & Wellness Just for Kids, Saturday, Aug. 17, from 9 a.m. -1 p.m., in the Lamar-Dixon Gym Building. Families and children of all ages are welcomed to attend, and the event is free to the public.

In addition to a 1k Fun Run for families, there will also be over 25 interactive exhibits showcasing organizations and services throughout the parish, free children’s health screenings, a marketplace area featuring specialty children’s items, live demonstrations and presentations, a “get moving” activity area and plenty of food and fun.

Flyers and complimentary tickets are available at all St. Elizabeth Physicians Clinics, St. Elizabeth Hospital, Ascension Parish Primary and Middle Schools and area businesses.

New River Masonic Lodge meeting

New River Masonic Lodge in Gonzales will hold a special meeting on Sunday, Aug, 11 at 2 p.m. in their Lodge Building.  It’s purpose is to present an Honesty and Integrity Award to a deserving High School student who has been selected.

2013 Ascension Chamber Business Expo

The 2013 Ascension Chamber Business Expo will showcase businesses throughout the Ascension Community. This event will take place on Thursday, Sept. 5, from 2 p.m. - 5 p.m., at the Lamar Dixon Trademart. It’s to offer face-to-face contact with customers, including fellow vendors and generate immediate sales and leads. All vendors are encouraged to distribute products, samples or promotional items to increase market presence.

This event is open to the public. Cost is $5.

Awana clubs offered

First Baptist Church, 1217 S. Burnside Ave., Gonzales, is offering Awana clubs for ages 1 year to 8th grade. Meetings are on Wednesdays, 6-7:30 p.m. through the school year starting Aug. 14. Visit www.fbcg.net for more information.

Polo Ralph Lauren’s Grand Opening

Celebrate the grand opening of Polo Ralph Lauren at Tanger Outlet Center, Gonzales, on Aug. 10. Polo Ralph Lauren will join the line-up of 70 brand name outlets.

Gourmet Food Trucks will be at the event all day Saturday. Including Taco de Paco, Pullin' Pork, Hibachi Hero, Lil' Chubbs Grill and Three Bones Catering. 

VFW/Auxiliary Bingo Birthday Party

The monthly Veterans of Foreign Wars and Auxiliary 3693 Senior Bingo and Birthday Party will be held Aug. 12 at the Post Home on Churchpoint Road, Gonzales, starting at 1 p.m.

Free seminar aids in starting your own business

Ascension Parish Library invites all interested persons to attend a free small business seminar, Starting and Financing a Small Business. It is designed for individuals who want to learn what it takes to start and run a successful small business. The program will focus on helping participants learn how to determine the feasibility of their idea, as well as how to obtain a small business loan. The speaker is Leighton Bryant, Business Development Consultant at the Louisiana Small Business Development Center at Southern University and A&M College - Baton Rouge. The seminar will be held at the library in Donaldsonville, on Tuesday, Aug. 20, at 6:30 p.m. Advance registration is required. Call 473-8052 today.

Hospice Grief Support Group to meet

Join SouthernCare, Inc. for their monthly SouthernCare Hospice Grief Support Group on Aug. 22.

The topic will be "How Grief Changes Your Life" (and whatever is needed by attendants)

Friends, neighbors, family are welcome to come with you. And anyone who is experiencing a loss is welcome to attend.

VFW/Auxiliary 3693 meeting

The meeting of the Gonzales VFW/ Auxiliary meeting will be Tuesday, Aug. 13 at the Post Home on Churchpoint Road, Gonzales, starting at 7 p.m. A meal will be served a 6 p.m.

7th Annual Steak Dinner

St. Amant Wildcats youth football organization is selling tickets for the 7th annual steak dinner. The event is being held on Aug. 24 at Lamar Dixon Gym from 5-10 p.m. with each ticket get steak dinner, music, live and silent auctions. Tickets are $25 and participants must be 21 to attend. All proceeds will go to Wildcats organization to buy equipment for 2013 season.

Give a Pint Get a Pint

Parent and Youth Summit

The East Ascension Ministers’ Alliance presents its 2nd Annual “Parent and Youth Summit.” Parents and youths are asked to a part of this event. The public is invited to hear from parents and youths of Ascension Parish, along with officials and local government communications of our Ascension Parish youths and parents on today’s issues. The seminar will take place Saturday, Aug. 17, from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the First Pilgrim Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, Hwy. 73, Geismar. The church’s pastor is Dr. Irvin Briley.

EAHS class of 1983 30th Year Reunion

The reunion committee is inviting all graduates of the East Ascension High class of 1983 to join in celebrating the 30th reunion. It is scheduled to be held on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 7 a.m.-11 p.m. at the Grande Pavilion on Airline Highway in Gonzales. The cost to attend is $40 per person. This includes a dinner buffet, soft drinks, wine, beer, coffee, dessert and a DJ. A cash bar will also be available. Free Small Business Consulting

Ascension Parish Library offers free small business consulting on the second Monday of each month at the library in Galvez, 40300 Hwy. 42, Prairieville. Persons wanting to start or improve a small business receive a private, two-hour consultation designed to provide professional help in areas of business planning, financing, marketing, and accounting.

This service is provided by the Louisiana Small Business Development Center at Southern University - Baton Rouge and is funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). TOPS LA 422 meet
