Summer Reading Program registration begins at Ascension Parish Library
Readers of all ages will explore life underground this summer as Ascension Parish Library presents our :Dig Into Reading: summer reading program. Join us as we discover the magical world beneath us, from gnomes to dinosaurs to mummies. We've got it all! Earn prizes for reading, and enjoy all of the great performers and programs at the library. There are plenty of programs for children of all ages to enjoy. Be a part of the action with Billy Jonas. In his program, :Everybody's in the Band.: Listen to Australian storyteller and digeridoo player, Paul Taylor, as he tells tales in :Wonders Down Under.: Laugh with delight as annual favorites, Playmakers of Baton Rouge, present another great show. We have plenty of our classic Make & Take Crafts scheduled as well, including Grass Heads, Pet Rocks, and Father's Day Keychains.
Some programs this summer are specifically designed for 2-5th graders and require registration: Crafting a Wreath with Nan Riffe, Debris Art with Trish Ransom, and a Mad Science Lab, just to name a few! We also have some great programs scheduled for tweens in grades 4-8, including Tween Spa Day, Tween Book Club, and Steampunk Owls.
Children, from birth to 8th grade, who register for the Summer Reading Program will receive a reading log, calendar, bookmark, and a Dig Into Reading button. At 100 minutes read, each reader receives a Dig Into Reading totebag, a certificate of completion, a bookmark and a pencil. For each additional 100 minutes read, the young reader can earn one chance at a Dig Into Reading t-shirt. And the reader who turns in the most t-shirt chance slips by the end of the summer will receive a special prize for being our Outstanding Reader. Registration begins Thursday, May 23.
Calling all Young Adults in grades 6-12--come join Ascension Parish Library's :Beneath the Surface: summer reading program! There are also plenty of fun events scheduled like Calaveras Paintings, Spa Day, Guy Stuff, Resin Jewelry and a Steampunk Circus, just to name a few. For every program you attend and every book review you turn in, you'll get a stamp on your stamp card. After three stamps, you can choose between three awesome prizes!
