Gonzales Committee on Cultural Affairs meets May 16

The Gonzales Committee on Cultural Affairs (GCCA) organizes the “twin cities” trips and activities for visits between Meylan, France and Gonzales, Louisiana. In 2012, Ascension Parish residents traveled to France where they stayed in the homes of people in Meylan and toured many sites in and around Meylan, France. This fall, citizens from Meylan will be traveling to Gonzales, and will stay with host families in the Gonzales area.
Karen Hatcher, president of GCCA, has announced that the tentative dates for the upcoming visit from the French are October 10-17, 2013. A few of the activities being planned for that week include cooking jambalaya and dancing at Jambalaya Park, attending the Festivals Acadiens et Créoles in Lafayette, spending a day on the river with the Gonzales Boat Club, touring a sugar mill and a plantation home, tailgating at the LSU/Florida football game, and treating the French visitors to a traditional Thanksgiving dinner.
GCCA’s next meeting is Thursday, May 16th at 6pm at the Gonzales Fire Department on Orice Roth Road. If you are interested in joining GCCA or would like information about being a host family, please contact Karen Hatcher at 225-644-6681.
