Senior Citizens Day at Fred's on the River

On Thursday, May 9, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. local citizens and merchants will sponsor the 31st annual Senior Citizens Day at Fred's on the River on Hwy. 42 at Amite River/Port Vincent. The event will benefit the elderly citizens of the area.

There will be a free lunch prepared by Jimmy Babin with meal sponsored by Eatel. Music will be organized T-Boy Moore and other musicians.

“This is a non-profit and non-charity event. There is no organization set up to sponsor this event. Simply volunteers who enjoy seeing the older generation have a fun and memorable time,” said Paul Ulbright.

In the past years this event included attendees from residents of Gonzales, French Settlement, Port Vincent, Prairieville and other surrounding areas.

Monetary donations will be used to cover the cost of refreshments, party favors, food, and entertainment. Material donations will be given as prizes during the course of the day. Additional revenue is to help defray costs. “Any and all donations will be greatly appreciated,” added Ulbright.
