On Wednesday, April 17, at 11 a.m., Sergeant Joey Meyers, of the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Department, will speak on “What Can I do To Protect Myself from Crime?” and answer questions from the audience at the Gonzales Senior Center 536 Irma Boulevard Gonzales, (next to the Gonzales Library). The event is free to the public.

Learn basic crime prevention information, for example:

• How criminals operate:

They look for the easiest opportunities.

• How to make crime difficult:

Remove any opportunities before criminals spot them.

Sgt. Meyers has been a resident of Ascension Parish for 22 years and has been employed with the Sheriff’s Office for 18 years. He is currently Programs Director for the Department where among other responsibilities he manages S.A.L.T. (Seniors And Lawmen Together) for the Sheriff’s Office so he has a wonderful understanding of the crime issues facing today’s Senior Citizens here in Ascension Parish.
