'Pro Life Night'

St. Amant Knights of Columbus Council 6389 is hosting a "Pro Life Night" with a special Rosary, music and a prayer read by Deacon J.R. Salinas. This event will be held at the KC Hall, 43472 Black Bayou Rd., St. Amant starting at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 25. Everyone is invited.

10-hour TV miniseries 'The Bible' to air

The Bible is an epic five-week, 10-hour television miniseries premiering March 3, on the History Channel from Emmy Award winning husband and wife team, Mark Burnett and Roma Downey. Each week the History Channel will show episodes on Sunday and Wednesday nights. Check your local TV schedule for times.

Women of Aviation Week

The Institute for Women of Aviation Worldwide announces the 3rd annual Women Of Aviation Worldwide Week, March 4-10. Held annually during the week of March 8, anniversary date of the first female pilot certificate worldwide, the week aims to foster diversity in aviation by celebrating history, raising awareness, and sparking vocations as thousands of girls and women are introduced to aviation through industry-wide collaboration.

Louisiana Regional Airport will be hosting its "Fly It Forward" Saturday, March 9, at the airport in celebration of the event.

Any girl of any age who has never flown in a private airplane is invited to sign up for a free flight. Reservations are made online at the Women of Aviation World Wide Week Website: www.womenofaviationweek.org. Space is limited, so organizers encourage everyone to register early.

VFW Post 3693 Beauty Pageant

The VFW Post 3693 and the Ladies Auxiliary will hold a "Beauty Pageant" at 2 p.m., on May 5, at the Post home on Church Point Road, Gonzales. The ages are from five to 20 years old. For more information, contact Gertie Savoy at (225) 673-9424.

Sheriff's Scholarship Program

Tthe Louisiana Sheriff's Scholarship Program will award scholarships providing assistance to worthy Louisiana students in furthering their education and training with resources made available through the Louisiana Sheriff's Honorary Membership Program.

Sheriff Jeff Wiley will be awarding a $1,000 scholarship to the recipient and a $500 scholarship to an alternate for the 2012-13 school year.

Applications are being provided to the high schools, and can also be obtained from the Sheriff's Office in Donaldsonville and Gonzales. For more information about the scholarship program, please contact Allison Hudson at (225) 621-8653.

St. Elizabeth Physicians educational program

St. Elizabeth Physicians is pleased to offer Shop Wise & Eat Healthy-A Guided Grocery Store Tour, sponsored by LeBlanc's Food Stores and St. Elizabeth Physicians Diabetes Education and Medical Nutrition Therapy Program. This new, hands-on educational program teaches participants valuable tips on reading food labels, understanding ingredients and buying foods based on health needs. All sessions are offered to participants free of charge.

Canary Islanders Heritage Society

Stella Carline Tanoos, a member of the Board of Directors for the Iberville Museum and LeComite, will be the featured speaker at the next general membership meeting of the Canary Islanders Heritage Society, at 11 a.m., on Saturday, March 2, at the Louisiana State Archives Building, 3851 Essen Lane, Baton Rouge. Tanoos will present information on the historical cattle trails from Texas and across Louisiana dating from the French and Spanish Colonial Period.

Hot to Trot/4-Alarm Fundraiser

The Pelican Point's Hot to Trot/4-Alarm Fundraiser will be held Saturday, April 27, at the Pelican Point's Club House, Gonzales. This fundraiser benefits the 5th Ward Volunteer Fire Department. The 1 Mile and 5K run/walk race will start at 8 a.m. Ages 3-15 will be $10 and 16 and above $20; family $40 (2 adults and up to 4 children). Entry includes race T-shirt, pancake breakfast and prizes. Myer Epstein Bishop Scholarship Fund

The Myer Epstein Bishop Scholarship Fund is looking for applicants. Each year $1,000 is awarded to one graduating senior from Ascension Parish towards their first semester of college. Bishop was very community oriented and a believer in education. This is his family's way of memorializing him. Rotary Club of Gonzales Food Festival

The 2013 Rotary Club of Gonzales Food Festival will be, from 5:30-7:30 p.m., on March 19, at the Gonzales Civic Center. Ticket required for entry at $25/person. The event is held to benefit the St. Theresa of Avila Food Pantry and other charitable organization. For each canned good you bring to the event, Blue runner will donate two canned goods.
