Standing outside Gonzales City Hall are some of the winners of the Awesome Art Exhibition 2014 held by River Region Art Association on October 11 and 12.

River Region Art Association is pleased to announce the winners of the Awesome Art Exhibition 2014. Open to all ages, students and adults, the judged show was held October 11 and 12 at Gonzales City Hall.

Oil paintings, watercolors, drawings, photography, and three-dimensional items were some of the 183 pieces of artwork on display from artists throughout the areas. Renowned artists Louise Hansen, Gene Bachman, and Jim Blanchard were the judges and Diane Tygier served as exhibition chairwoman.

“There was a great mixture of all media.  The largest amount of entries came from students, ages 6 to 18, from Ascension Parish schools.  I was most pleased by the variety of entries and the quality of works.  The three judges were equally impressed and said the arrangement of the exhibit made the judging very easy. Over all, I was pleased with the attendance and especially with the excitement of the children over their experience in the show,” says Tygier.

The exhibition was part of the two-day Awesome Art on the Bayou Festival held in Gonzales. It included arts, crafts, and food booths along the banks of Bayou Francois in Jambalaya Park and local entertainment on the Jambalaya Stage. “With free admission and plenty of activities for the entire family, we estimate an attendance of 2,800 this year. On behalf of River Region Art Association, I want to thank the City of Gonzales, the Parish of Ascension, and all our volunteers who helped make this festival, now in its 8th year, a great success,” says John Robbins, festival chairman.
