Depot Gallery opens for 'Sneak Peak'

The Depot Gallery of River Region Art Association is showing more than 200 pieces of original of art from 24 member artists. Included are Folk art, fine at, paintings, pottery, jewelry, and more.

Doors are now open to the public for a sneak peak of the newest art gallery in Ascension Parish. The Depot Gallery of River Region Art Association is showing more than 200 pieces of original of art from 24 member artists. Included are Folk art, fine at, paintings, pottery, jewelry, and more.

"We are so excited about our new location in the historic city-owned Edenborn Depot," says JoAnn Eiswirth, president of River Region Art Association. "Built in 1906 by the Louisiana Railway & Navigation Company, the building is just perfect for a community art gallery and for holding art classes and meetings."

Hours are 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. Wednesdays - Sundays. The gallery is located at 1008 W. Hwy. 30 in Gonzales, which is across the highway from St. Elizabeth's Hospital.

The Depot Gallery Ribbon Cutting Ceremony by the Ascension Chamber of Commerce is Aug. 20 at 10 a.m. and a grand opening reception for the gallery is planned for Sept. 5 from 5:30 – 8 p.m. The public is invited to both events.

The River Region Art Association, founded in 1993, is the area's leading regional art organization. Its mission is to bring artists and arts advocates together to improve publicawareness of all art forms. The association supports local artists, promotes the arts in the

River Region Art Association community, and provides educational opportunities for emerging and established artists, students, and the general public. River Region Art Association is funded in part through the generosity of individuals and area businesses, and the Recreation Department of the Parish of Ascension and through in-kind support from the City of Gonzales and Houmas House Plantation. It is also supported by a grant from the Louisiana Division of the Arts, Office of Cultural Development, Department of Culture,

Recreation and Tourism in cooperation with the Louisiana State Arts Council as administered by the Arts Council of Greater Baton Rouge.
