HOT ART, COOL NIGHTS
The tenth annual Baton Rouge Mid City Merchants sponsored spring art hop, “Hot Art, Cool Nights”, will be held on Friday night, May 10 , from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. This premier spring art event is one of the tops in the city as attested by the thousands of art lovers that jam into the participating businesses. This is Mother’s Day weekend, so treat “Mom” to a night out and to a fine piece of artwork.
Mid City businesses will sponsor original, local art. Some will be well known local artists and some will showcase new talent. One is sure to see various mediums and styles of art from works of sculptors, painters, jewelry designers, photographers and more. The artist will be present on the night of the event at the business that is showcasing his or her work.
Some of this year’s participating businesses include Abat-Jour, Aladdin’s Lamp Antiques, Arnold & Associates Interiors, Artists Inside Circa 1857, Artvark Ltd, Atomic Pop Shop, Bistro Byronz, Brew-Ha- Ha, Corks N Canvas, Custom Audio Video, Décor Rouge, Denicola’s Furniture & Upholstery, Elizabethan Gallery, Fleur de Lis Pizza, Insurance Associates of Baton Rouge, LaCarreta Mexican Cuisine; Laurin Maier State Farm, Match Point Tennis & Fitness Boutique, Monjunis Italian Café’ & Grocery, Mosaic Garden, My Louise, Piggly Wiggly, Reginelli’s Pizzeria; Rue Cou Cou, Sabai Jewelry Gallery, Sally’s Circa 1857; Shavarsh K Jewelry Design Shop, Studio C; Superior Grill & Bar, The Sanctuary Day Spa & Spiritual Retreat; Time Warp Boutique, Victoria’s Toy Station; Wooden Haven Furniture and Yvette Marie’s Cafe.
Mid City is truly the premier art and design district of the city. Its area spans from I-10 to Lobdell Boulevard and from Claycut/Broussard to Main Street. This year proceeds from the art hop will help purchase public art for this area of Baton Rouge.
Again, it’s an evening you will not want to miss. For all the people who want to have fun and see what local talent we have here in the Capital City, mark your calendars now. For all the true art connoisseurs who want to add a new piece of art to their collection, as well as those of you who just enjoy shopping, “Hot Art, Cool Nights” is an event you will want to experience. For out of town art lovers, spend the weekend so you can come back on Saturday to take in what you didn’t have a chance to see the night before. Shuttle bus transportation will be available or you may just want to stroll along Government Street to take in the art. We hope to see you on Friday, May 10, between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m.
