Blue Jean Ball

A Blue Jean Ball, with proceeds going to Kidz Kove, will be held Friday, April 26, from 8 p.m.-midnight at the Gonzales Civic Center, 219 S. Irma Blvd.., Gonzales. Event spotlights: Silent Auction, Cash Bar with music provided by "Something Blue" featuring Jenny Heroman.

Free Seminar aids in starting own business

Ascension Parish Library invites all interested persons to attend a free small business seminar, Starting and Financing a Small Business, presented by the Louisiana Small Business Development Center from Southern University and A&M College - Baton Rouge. The seminar is designed for individuals who want to learn what it takes to start and run a successful small business and will focus on helping participants learn how to determine the feasibility of their idea, as well as how to obtain a small business loan. Gospel in the Park 2013

Gospel in the Park 2013 will ber held at Jambalaya Park, Gonzales, on Saturday May 4, from noon until 8 p.m. The event is free to the public.

DTHS Mini Dance Camp

Senior Citizens Day at Fred's on the River

On Thursday, May 9, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. local citizens and merchants will sponsor the 31st annual Senior Citizens Day at Fred's on the River on Hwy. 42 at Amite River/Port Vincent. The event will benefit the elderly citizens of the area.

There will be a free lunch prepared by Jimmy Babin with meal sponsored by Eatel. Music will be organized T-Boy Moore and other musicians.

"This is a non-profit and non-charity event. There is no organization set up to sponsor this event. Simply volunteers who enjoy seeing the older generation have a fun and memorable time," said Paul Ulbright.

In the past years this event included attendees from residents of Gonzales, French Settlement, Port Vincent, Prairieville and other surrounding areas.

Monetary donations will be used to cover the cost of refreshments, party favors, food, and entertainment. Material donations will be given as prizes during the course of the day. Additional revenue is to help defray costs. "Any and all donations will be greatly appreciated," added Ulbright.

Semi-Annual Arts & Crafts Fair calls for artisans

Oak Grove Baptist Church will host its 4th Semi-Annual Arts & Crafts Fair on Saturday, April 20, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on the grounds of Oak Grove Baptist Church field, located at 17450 Old Jefferson Highway, Prairieville-.

A gathering of Heberts

The Hebert Association is holding a gathering of Heberts for anyone interested in the history or genealogy of the Hebert name or anyone interested in Acadian history. The gathering will be held at the Abbeville library at 405 E. St. Victor Street in Abbeville on Saturday April 27, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Lunch will be served and is free to Hebert Association members and $5 for non-members. There will be speakers on Cajuns (Acadians) in World War II, the history of the Hebert Association, posters on Acadian ancestors, information on CMA 2014 and the opportunity to find your ancestors in this extensive database.
