If you love hearing great stories before bedtime, then join us at the Ascension Parish Library for our monthly Pajama Storytime. Attend in your PJ's for stories, songs, and a craft. Our theme for March is Easter. First, we'll read some great Easter stories. Then, you'll get a paper cup, construction paper, wiggly eyes, feathers, scissors, and glue to make your very own paper cup chick.
Pajama Storytime will be held on Tuesday, March 12 in Donaldsonville and Dutchtown, and on Thursday, March 14 in Gonzales and Galvez. All Pajama Storytimes start at 6:30 p.m. This program is designed for children ages 7 and younger and their families. Line Dancing Made Easy!
From wedding receptions to family reunions, line dancing's got the party rockin' from coast to coast! Ever wish you could join the fun, but just don't know how? We're playing your song! Dust off those dancing shoes and boot, scoot and boogie on down to Ascension Parish Library in Dutchtown for "Step by Step: Line Dancing Made Easy" on Thursday, March 14 at 6 p.m. Instructor Vicki Viverito, captain of her high school dance team and a veteran of local dance contests, will be on hand to guide you every step of the way to a toe-tappin', foot-stompin' good time. Tweens, have you ever wanted to create your own masterpiece? We will be making mini pieces of art at the Ascension Parish Library! There will be many different types of art mediums available including paint, charcoal, and pastels. We will also construct mini easels to display your mini artwork.
Explore your artistic talent on Saturday, March 9 at 10 a.m. in Dutchtown, on Tuesday, March 12 at 6 p.m. in Galvez, on Saturday, March 23 at 10 a.m. in Gonzales, and on Tuesday, March 26 at 6 p.m. in Donaldsonville. Be a Butterfly
If you love butterflies and using your imagination, the Ascension Parish Library has a delightfully fun program for you. At Be a Butterfly, you'll listen to a great story, Waiting for Wings by Lois Ehlert. Then, you'll make a pretty flower that you can drink "nectar" out of. Finally, you'll make your very own beautiful butterfly wings and pretend to soar and dance around to music. You'll be just like a real butterfly!
Be a Butterfly programs will be held on Tuesday, March 19 at 4:30 p.m. in Donaldsonville, and at 6 p.m. in Dutchtown, and on Thursday, March 21 at 6 p.m. in Gonzales and Galvez. This program is designed for children ages 2 through 5, but all ages are welcome. Each child will be given a small cup of apple juice to use as nectar to drink from his or her flower. Assassin's Creed to Zelda
Think you know the most about video games? Do you faithfully celebrate Winter-een-mas each January? (Could you tell us which week Winter-een-mas falls on?) Flaunt your gamer expertise at the Ascension Parish Library in Dutchtown on Thursday, March 21 at 4:30 p.m., during video game jeopardy – made for gamers, by gamers. And we can't just talk about video games without playing any! A Guitar Hero jam session will follow. So come out, rock out, and show everyone what you've got!

From Grumpy Cat and Skeptical Baby to Bad Luck Brian and Strutting Leo, meme madness is spreading throughout the Internet. These funny photos accompanied by clever phrases are all the rage, and now you can create your very own! Come "Get Your Meme On!", Thursday, March 28 at 6 p.m. at Ascension Parish Library in Donaldsonville. Learn all about this infectious fad, then choose from pics of popular memes and provide your own silly captions. This event is open to teens in grades 6-12. Free Small Business Consulting
Ascension Parish Library offers free small business consulting on the second Monday of each month at the library in Galvez, 40300 Hwy. 42, Prairieville. Persons wanting to start or improve a small business receive a private, two-hour consultation designed to provide professional help in areas of business planning, financing, marketing, and accounting.
This service is provided by the Louisiana Small Business Development Center at Southern University/Baton Rouge and is funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA). Free Seminar Aids in Starting Your Own Business
Ascension Parish Library invites all interested persons to attend a free small business seminar, Starting and Financing a Small Business. It is designed for individuals who want to learn what it takes to start and run a successful small business. The program will focus on helping participants learn how to determine the feasibility of their idea as well as how to obtain a small business loan. The speaker is Leighton Bryant, Business Development Consultant at the Louisiana Small Business Development Center at Southern University and A&M College – Baton Rouge. SCORE Offers Free Counseling
Ascension Parish Library and SCORE – Baton Rouge offer free, on-site counseling in Ascension Parish for new business start-ups and mentoring for existing businesses. Counseling sessions are held the first Tuesday morning and third Tuesday afternoon each month by appointment at the library in Gonzales.
SCORE (Counselors to America's Small Business), a nonprofit Association and a resource partner of the Small Business Administration, is dedicated to entrepreneur education and the formation, growth and success of small business nationwide.
Counselors are active or retired business owners and executives with extensive experience, who follow the steps on "How to Start and Manage a Successful Business." This includes help on the Business Plan, Financial Forecast, Marketing & Sales, Legal and Accounting suggestions, Business Insurance needs, and the Bank Loan Package preparation. SCORE counselors follow a strict code of ethics and confidentiality.
This year SCORE will begin expanding its education opportunities in the community for small businesses with a new Simple Steps Program and a stronger Community Alliance Program. These New Programs will help SCORE become even more valuable resource in our community.
