Ascension Idol rocks Gonzales

Ascension Idol rocks! The show is packed with talent, and the event hands a $1,000 dollar prize to the winner. This year's winner was Baylee Sullivan from Dutchtown High School.

Every child that performed was amazing, with a unique style and certain grace. We should be extremely proud of the children who braved the stage in front of hundreds of people at the Lamar Dixon Expo Center on Friday night.

Although the top five finalists were enough to impress the judges, each contestant should be proud of the work they put into their performances. It's hard to sing.

The performers are either a middle or high school student from Ascension Parish. Some of the performances were by children in the sixth grade. This years performers were (in order of appearance):

Mallory Commander - Dutchtown Middle

Taylor Wells - Dutchtown Middle

Taye Rafael Jackson - RPCC, Donaldsonville High

Audrey Soulier - St. Theresa Middle (finalist)

Cadence Lachney - Dutchtown Middle

Maci Marse - St. Amant High (fan favorite)

Alexandra Purdy - New Beginnings Academy (finalist)

Alaina Robinson - Dutchtown High

Cadence Jenkins - Dutchtown Middle

Kyla O'Deay - Dutchtown Middle

Maya Fernbaugh - RPCC, Dutchtown

Cameron Soulier - East Ascension High (2nd)

Baylee Sullivan - Dutchtown High (Champion)

Rustin Carmouche - East Ascension High (3rd)

The event is hosted by the Ascension Fund and sponsored by Shell, Air Products, BASF, CFIndustries, EATEL, St. Elizabeth, Domain Architecture, Marlin's Pizza Plus Seafood, Alison's World of Music, and Waguespack Insurance.

Last year's winner Lauren Delhaye presented the trophy to Baylee Sullivan, who was coached by Team Mike.

This year's judges were Alison Dubuc, Clayton Decoteau, Julie Jones, and Mike Wagespack. The event was hosted by Matt Pryor and Renee' Picou.
