On Wednesday August 8th, Barbara and Roger Bourg III residents of Donaldsonville, celebrated their 53rd anniversary. The couple was united at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic church.
National League of Junior Cotillions event tomorrow
The National League of Junior Cotillions is starting a program in Ascension Parish and would love the opportunity to invite children from the school district. We are inclusive and are willing to invite anyone!
COTILLION SCHEDULES PARENTS’ RECEPTION AND REGISTRATION
The National League of Junior Cotillions, Greater Baton Rouge Chapter, has scheduled a Parents’ Reception and registration for August 22 at 6:30 p.m. at Pelican Point Country Club for the 2017-2018 season.
“We are looking forward to this opportunity to present the National League of Junior Cotillions program to interested parents," Stacey Troy Smith, director of the local Junior Cotillion, said. "We believe this will be an excellent opportunity for children in this area to learn social skills that will be of value to them later in life.”
The National League of Junior Cotillions is an etiquette and social dance training program that involves thousand of students nationwide. Treatment and management of arthritis
On Tuesday, August 29, at 2:00 p.m. at the Ascension Parish Library in Gonzales, Dr. Robert M. Moukarzel, an orthopedic surgeon, will hold a seminar on The Treatment and Management of Arthritis. Dr. Moukarzel is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with over 25 years of general orthopedic skills and vast experience in orthopaedic trauma, joint replacements, and joint revisions.
Dr. Moukarzel will discuss information on how to relieve symptoms of arthritis and improve joint function since the focus of treatment for arthritis is to control pain, minimize joint damage, and improve or maintain function and quality of life.

Dialogue on race
The Dialogue on Race Series, an educational process for the elimination of racism, will be held on Tuesdays, August 22 – September 26, 2017, at 6:30 p.m. at the Ascension library Dutchtown branch. Understanding what racism is and how it operates through institutions is the core of this educational process. This six-session series is a structured two-hour weekly series led by trained facilitators.
Come out and participate in these proven-effective sessions that will offer a safe environment for open and honest discussion to help people understand what needs to be done and what they can do to eliminate racism in our communities.

Deadline to claim solar energy tax credit is August 31
Louisiana taxpayers have until Thursday, August 31 to claim a tax credit for qualifying residential solar energy systems purchased and installed on or before December 31, 2015.
Taxpayers who purchased qualifying systems, and who did not submit solar tax credit claims previously, must file their claims electronically by submitting an original or amended state income tax return with tax credit code 64f for the year in which the system was purchased and installed. All claims must be submitted with supporting documentation, as required by law.
Taxpayers who submitted claims that were denied due to a cap placed on the tax credit program in 2015 should not re-submit their claims. Those taxpayers were notified by mail in July about the status of their claims.

Second Air Force Change of Command
Maj. Gen. Timothy Leahy takes command of 2nd Air Force from Maj. Gen. Bob LaBrutta, at 9 a.m., Aug. 23 at the Keesler parade field.
Second Air Force, headquartered in Biloxi, is responsible for conducting basic military and non-flying technical training for the Air Force, joint and coalition enlisted members and support officers. The command provides training in more than 390 Air Force specialties through 1,900 courses graduating 150,000 students annually. Second Air Force includes four training wings, a training group and more than 103 field training units around the world.
Leahy entered the Air Force in 1985 as a Reserve Officer Training Corps graduate of The Citadel. He has held a variety of positions at the major command, sub-unified combatant command, and geographic and functional combatant command levels. He has commanded at the squadron, wing and numbered Air Force level. He is a command pilot with more than 3,200 hours of flight time, primarily in Special Operations Flight aircraft. Prior to this assignment, Leahy was commander of LeMay Center for Doctrine and Education and Vice Commander of the Air University at Maxwell AFB, Ala.
Toiletry donations quickly needed for deploying troops
The American Red Cross in south Louisiana is hosting a toiletry donation drive until Aug. 25 to support deploying Louisiana National Guard troops. In the coming weeks, the Louisiana National Guard will deploy multiple units from across the state to overseas destinations, where basic sanitary supplies and toiletries are needed. If you can help, please drop off full-size products at donation boxes in the lobbies of American Red Cross offices in Baton Rouge (4655 Sherwood Common Blvd.), New Orleans and Madisonville, weekdays from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Among the needed full-size supplies are shaving gel, disposable razors, liquid soap/shower gel, toothpaste, stick deodorant, foot powder, hand sanitizer and baby wipes.
LA 30: Ashland Rd. To Tanger Blvd. intermittent lane closures
Construction has begun for State Project H.011897, LA 30: Ashland Road To Tanger Boulevard. The project consists of adding an eastbound continuous right turn lane on LA 30 between Ashland Road and Tanger Boulevard in Ascension Parish.
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development advises motorists that there will be intermittent lane closures on LA 30 during construction. Work on the project is expected to last approximately four months, weather permitting.
