DONALDSONVILLE – Ascension Parish President Tommy Martinez proclaimed Sunday, July 13 as “The Center Stage Stars Day” in Ascension Parish to recognize the recent achievements of a local performing arts academy that competed in a national competition and won numerous awards.

President Martinez read the proclamation aloud during the Ascension Parish Council meeting on July 9.

The Center Stage Stars Company, a competition team of 5- to 19-year-old stage performers culled from the Center Stage Performing Arts Company in Gonzales, recently competed in the prestigious Access Broadway National Competition in Orlando, Florida earlier this month.

The Center Stage Stars competed in solo, small group and large group categories including vocal, acting, musical theatre and all types of dancing.

At the completion of the five-day event, the Center Stage Stars had multiple winners in the varied categories while also winning both “The Broadway Cup” and “The Las Vegas Cup” – a first in the Access Broadway’s 17-year history.

“We are certainly proud of you and want to congratulate you for such a great honor and for representing Ascension Parish in such a great way,” said President Martinez.
