During the holiday season, Ascension Parish Sheriff's Office makes an effort to collect monetary donations, as well as new toys, to help families in need.

On December 11 at 6:30 p.m., there will be a shopping night at Wal-Mart in Gonzales to help purchase toys for qualifying families during the Christmas Crusade.

To help with this program, Francois Bend in Gonzales created a Christmas Tree Decorating Contest. Six different companies are participating, and they have all of the trees already decorated at Francois. The companies participating are Eatel, Starlite Espresso Cafe, Landry's Pharmacy, Alzheimer's Services of the Capital Area, Legacy Hospice, and The Carpenter Health Network.

The public is invited to vote for the trees and to help raise money for the Christmas Crusade. How do you vote? Simply put a one dollar bill into the box next to each tree that you want to vote for. Voting will go through the end of December.
