St. Jude Fish Fry held on the river

Leslie Dupuy, Special to the Weekly Citizen

On October 25 the community came together for a great cause, to raise money for St. Jude children. Freds on the River was the host business again this year. A special thanks to David Roshto and the Fred’s employees.

The rain ended just in time for the crew of nearly 20 cooks to go to work, frying fish, boiling peanuts and cooking cracklins. Over 300 plates of fish were sold at $8 a plate, coleslaw, hushpuppies, home fries and fresh catfish were more than you needed to get the night started. The auction started at 7 p.m., and the crowd was all standing at attention.

Some great items were auctioned off: LSU – Bama tickets, whiskey, and even a live snapping turtle. The event was a great success, with the total amount raised of $26,000. That will go a long way for the children of St. Jude.
