Taking care of your teeth is an important daily routine. Getting them cleaned, too, is important for your overall health.

Francsiscus Xaverius opened a practice in Gonzales about a year ago for dental needs. Xaverius went to Tulane where he double majored in Biology and History. For his Masters, he attended LSU. For dental school, he attended New York University, where he also completed his residency.

After this, he worked in New York for some time and did work in Long Island that related to cosmetics. For example, replacing many sets of teeth to look brand new. He passed the state board exam in 2004.

Xaverius moved to the Baton Rouge area after his mother had suffered a stroke. He now takes care of her full-time, and opening his practice allows him the flexibility he needs to tend to her while also serving the community.

Gonzales was the pick for his new practice since it's a relatively small area, and there is a need for it. Owning a smaller store also allows him the ability to manage it more easily. He wasn't able to have a ribbon-cutting when he first opened since he was still adjusting to taking care of his mother.

"I have pretty flexible hours, especially for those who work all day," Xaverius said. "I will be available after 7 p.m. on some days, as well as weekends on Saturday and Sunday's."

Local businesses are benefitted by him, too. Xaverius will use a local crown lab in Harahan, La. for crowns that are used for cavities, and a local denture shop too. However, sometimes he will use a denture shop in New York because he has known the people since he graduated dental school.

"I look at quality when I am doing my work," Xaverius said. "People who don't do that tend to have customers that have issues in their mouth. This can result in having to change, or fix, something that has already been done. An example of this is using something like lead for a filling, which can cause the mouth to turn black. It can be cheaper for other businesses to do that, but it's not the best."

Proud of the fact that he is local, Xaverius explains that it is the experience that matters with his business. He's been practicing since 2004 and knows his customers will receive quality care.
