The Huntington Learning Center of Gonzales on Burnside Avenue is celebrating its first year of helping students perform better in school and unlock their academic potential. Since it opened in 2017, the center has helped dozens of students of all ages and abilities in the Ascension and Baton Rouge areas learn the skills they need to improve their study habits, build their self-confidence, and succeed in school.

“We are so excited to be celebrating our first year,” says Elmer Tatum, owner of the Gonzales center. “I joined the Huntington family because of my desire to make a difference in the lives of children, and I couldn’t be more grateful to have helped so many students. Our success is thanks to a great team of people, a strong brand, and a dedicated community who believes in what we do. We’re looking forward to continuing to serve area students!”

Huntington’s highly trained, certified tutors deliver individualized instruction across a wide range of academic areas to students from kindergarten through high school. In addition, the center provides one-on-one test prep for the ACT, SAT, and has also helped adult students prepare for the ASVAB and the Civil Service exam.

“It has been so gratifying to see these students come in and work so hard to achieve their goals,” said Tatum. “Watching the light bulb come on, hearing a student read on their own for the first time, or hearing how much they like coming to work with our tutors, is truly heartwarming. And when the high school students call us to celebrate the jump in their latest ACT score, the scholarship they earned, the college they were accepted to, I could not be prouder.”

The company’s proprietary four-step approach includes a comprehensive evaluation, personalized learning plan, individual tutoring and regular communication with families and schools.

Dr. Raymond Huntington, chairman and co-founder, congratulates the Gonzales Center.

“Elmer and his team at the Gonzales Huntington do an excellent job of carrying out the Huntington mission, as evidenced by their high approval ratings from parents and their impressive results with students,” he says. “This milestone is indicative of their efforts, of which they should be very proud. I’m looking forward to their bright future in the years to come.”
