Harvest Time Food Bank

Grambling High School Day
The Grambling University Experience will be held Thursday, January 25 in the Upstage Theatre, at Cortana Mall Entrance #1 (by Dillard's) in Baton Rouge. The event is hosted by the Charles P. Adams Alumni Chapter of Greater Baton Rouge. The Grambling University recruitment team will be present. The Grambling Exerience High School Day will take place from 6-8 p.m.
Alzheimer’s Caregiver Support Group Meetings
Alzheimer's Services of the Capital Area sponsors caring, non-judgmental meetings where families and friends share their experiences and learn essential information for coping with the disease. Caregiver Support Groups meet regularly and are free. Caregivers come together to share stories, get tips, ask questions, and support one another through the journey of Alzheimer’s. Twenty-fourth Annual Boat Parade
The Krewe of Diversion's 24th annual Mardi Gras Boat Parade will be held Friday, February 3 at 6 p.m. The cost is $35 per boat (checks payable to LFACC). All proceeds benefit St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Food and St. Jude items will be sold at Manny’s starting at noon the day of the parade. The Live Auction starts AT 5:30 p.m. or after all participating parade boats are back at Manny’s. All donations are appreciated. Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) Training
The Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) program of Child Advocacy Services needs volunteers to be the voice for abused and neglected children in their community. Training will begin February 15. LSU Vet School Open House
The LSU School of Veterinary Medicine (SVM) will host its 36th annual Open House on Saturday, January 20 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the LSU SVM on Skip Bertman Dr. This event is free and open to the public, though donations are welcome. The LSU SVM encourages the public to download the LSU SVM app that will include a detailed schedule of events, maps, announcements, games and more that will help guests find information and navigate the self-guided tour easily. LSU Order of the Engineer
Twenty students were recently inducted into the LSU College of Engineering’s Order of the Engineer, an honorific awarded to selected students to “foster a spirit of pride and responsibility in the engineering profession, to bridge the gap between training and experience, and to present to the public a visible symbol identifying the engineer.” Local students inducted were: Bianca Goodlow of Gonzales; Sarah Christine Ellis, Matthew LeBlanc, and Brian William McIlwain of Prairieville.
Pet Adoption Event
The SPCA of Livingston will be holding a pet adoption event on Saturday, January 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event will take place at the PetSmart on Millerville Road in Baton Rouge right off of I-12. Bring your family out and meet all of the sweet, furry friends looking for their forever homes. There will be a variety of puppies and adult dogs.
7th District VFD Donations
The 7th District Volunteer Fire Department (Gonzales) is once again, having their annual appreciation banquet and needs your help. In 2017, the 7th District VFD responded to 847 Fire and EMS calls as volunteers, rivaling many paid fire departments. If you would consider donating a door prize for our annual banquet, please call by Tuesday, January 23.
