Tanger Outlets Gonzales donated more than $3,000 to Compassion That Compels.

The nonprofit organization provides Compassion Bags and emotional support to women battling cancer. Bags are filled with practical items to help women on their cancer journeys. They serve as a reminder to each women that she is brave, beautiful, and never alone.

The donation was made at a special presentation ceremony on December 19. The funds were raised throughout the month of October as part of the 24th annual Tanger PINK Campaign. Since 1994, Tanger has donated more than $17 million to breast cancer research through the PINK Campaign, 5K races, on-site events, and other breast cancer-related initiatives across the country.

General Manager Jeanne St. Germain said that every year Tanger shoppers take part in the donation effort. She said some shoppers even wait until October to roll around so they can support the campaign by making a donation.

"These funds are impacting our families and our friends in our own community who are fighting cancer right now and going to the treatment centers in our area," said St. Germain.

St. Germain noted that 100 percent of the funds raised support a good cause. While some goes to national research efforts towards ending the fight against cancer, the rest stays right here in the community to help Ascension Parish residents who are impacted by cancer.

All of the proceeds from the campaign support the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, the nation’s highest-rated breast cancer organization according to Charity Watch and Charity Navigator, as well as a nearby cancer foundation. Compassion That Compels, which services cancer treatment centers in south Louisiana, also receives a portion of the funds raised during this year’s campaign.
