Drive sober or get pulled over
The Gonzales Police Department was awarded a grant from the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission as part of the Christmas New Year Holiday campaign for the period of December 13, 2017 thru January 1, 2018, in efforts to deter drunk driving and take drunk drivers off the roadway. We wish everyone a safe and happy holiday, from the Gonzales Police Department.
Special Tuesday Christmas Party
The Volunteer Ascension Special Tuesday (Helping hands for the handicapped) Christmas Party will be held on Tuesday, December 12, from 5 p.m.-8 p.m. at the Gonzales Primary School Cafeteria.
Celebration in the Park
On Sunday, December 17 from 3-4:30 p.m. a Celebration in the Park will be held at the Gonzales Jambalaya Park hosted by St. Landry U.M.C. Musical guests include Sounds of Praise, Cates Quartet, and Electrifying Crown Seekers. Donations will be appreciated.
LA 44 (St. James Parish) single lane closure
A single lane road closure will take place on LA 44 (River Rd.) on Monday, December 4, through Friday, December 22, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Saturday. The closure will be from LA 3214 to 0.1 miles north of LA 3214. The closure is necessary for maintenance painting of pipe bridge over LA 44. Any permit loads wider than 11’ or higher than 25’ should contact the permit office for rerouting.
Alternates routes are available. Motorists should detour:
North Bound - Take LA 44 to LA 3214. Turn left onto LA 3125 and proceed to LA 70. Turn left on LA 70 and proceed to LA 44 (River Rd.)
South Bound - Take LA 44 to LA 70. Take LA 70 east to LA 3125. Turn right onto LA 3125 and proceed to LA 3214. Turn right onto LA 3214 and proceed to LA 44. Turn left onto LA 44 to proceed south bound on River Rd.

Celebrate the Holiday Season with Ascension Christian Strings Ensemble
Ascension Parish Library in Dutchtown presents a special performance by the Ascension Christian School’s youth strings ensemble on Thursday, December 14 at 6:30 p.m. The youth strings ensemble will perform traditional holiday carols in celebration of the season. The performance is under the direction of Borislava Iltcheva, Concert Master of the Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra and Principle Violinist II, Aaron Farrell.
